electro-pop is not overated. i really think you need to do some research on stuff before you go slamming it pete. learn your history on electro.

so the gorillaz are overated are they? aphex twin is? prodigy? you mention pendulum, excuse me last time i checked they were electro-drum and bass, with more of a pop edge, ie electro pop.

is kid a by radiohead, the band you mentioned, main influence electro? (but you really wouldnt know that would you, but you say its overated, and dont listen to it properly)

and explain how the hell lady gaga is a sell out? why because she sold more albums than u2, you had a pissy fit, and claim, SHE'S BLOODY A RIGHT SELL OUT!?!?!?! because the music doesn't sound of sell out.

and ill finish with muse on this one. i love muse bigtime, but have they changed their sound since the 3rd album? not really. do they more or less write songs with the same melodies? more or less. isnt this a sell out thing to do, knowing all they have to do is beef up the last album, with the samey ideas etc etc? more or less. so is sticking to the same sound lazy? sell out? i love muse, but come on, they really havent done anything groundbreaking and new.

lady gaga isnt exactly a sellout......

i could give a few examples as to why she isnt. and who would be considered a sellout and why. and besides, her shit's way better than 95% of the shit thats out there right now. wtf is up with that? at least she has actual talent and knows how to get herself out there and in a very cool way and theres some originality there and she knows what shes doing without being a literal record label labrat drugged up puppet slut like Britney Spears, for major example.. (yes, watch some online videos of her music before she was known as Lady Gaga.. you'd think you were watching Norah Jones or Alicia Keys on piano. Gaga's got talent.)

i say more power to electro 80' coming back into popularity and influence.  if done right.
but of course i'm very biased as im an extreme fan of electronic music and 80's. as we all know.

Lady Ga Ga can't be a sell out as it's quite obvious she's doing exactly what see intends to do.

She's a very unique artist.

Now Pete mentions 30 Seconds To Mars.

A band made up by Jared Leto, a quasi famous actor who figured that if he started an emo band that he'd gain notoriety based on the fact the people knew him from Requiem For a Dream and other films.

When on tour, Jared flies first class while the other members of the band ride in economy.

Now that's a sell out.

Pendulum.  Great example to prove yourself wrong Pete.

I love Pendulum, great Aussie band. But if you've heard their first album, it's full on drum and bass.

For the second album they added a lot more pop and rock elements including vocals so they could get played on the radio and booked on the rock stages at festivals. They band have happily said this in interviews.

That sounds like a bit of calculated selling out to me.

Linkin Park? Sound to me like the Backstreet Boys doing Faith No More and Nine Inch Nails covers.

And they are totally designed by a record label and a marketing department to be as popular with teenagers with terrible taste as possible

Here's an exerpt from their booking agents page

Corporate golf days??????? Jaysus!

Not that's selling out.

man i would rather listen to coldplay than 30 seconds to mars, they are awful! sorry i dont like emo (look at our good looking faces videos with our guy liner on does my head in) they might have the odd good tune somewhere, but its just emo-shouting nonsence which i just dont like. i would rather listen to the deftones for the non-emo effect, the dark tones of heavyness, and the lyrics are so much better. but if you enjoy them pete, good for you. but to have them on the same list as u2? meh!

linkin biscuit? thats all they are really. maynard from TOOL called them linkin biscuit once, very funny! but thats all they are. again made up to look good, yet their music of claiming they are nu-metal is beyond me. but they seem to do the same song writing formula as muse. but unlike muse, linkin biscuit were ok for the first album. (i admit there is a couple of ok tracks on the album)

and as mick said, i didnt know that about linkin biscuit making themselves available to play golf tournements! too funny that.

Mac, maybe I'm an old bastard now, but it actually makes me sad that the legacy of  the two great incredible rap rock bands Faith No More and Rage Against The Machine is being carried on by pussies with Walmart piercings and tats like Linkin Park, and that when the majority of people think of this style of music, they think of Fred fucking Durst.

When did hard rock get taken over by pansies????

Trent Reznor may have come on stage in fishnets and make up but that guy destroyed any building he ever played in. Same with Al Jourgenson.

Mike Patton could fart better music than the majority of new school "hard rock" bands.

And as for emo, Jaysus shoot me.

Sure we had Goth, but The Cure, Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, Nick freakin Cave and the Bad Seeds, Nails, Ministry, The Virgin Prunes etc but as much hairspary and lipstick as they may have been wearing, they were all musically brilliant.

Ian Curtis is rolling in his grave.

And golf days???

"Hey Gerald, I totally nailed that Chester Bennington guy on the third hole!

"Julian, you really showed that ruffian!  Let's head to the yaught club shall we?"

Hey Pete, this is why Linkin Park are pussies.

Now NINs a band that never sold out. They got so jack of the record label they left and started giving their music away for free.

And you can't hire them for corporate golf days!

I have a good friend who had lived all over the world and worked in the music industry for several years and has been to several concerts in the 70's and 80's. Seen Pink Floyd and Zeppelin at festivals in Europe, was a groupie with some bands. (You can tell I look up to her). She worked with several bands in Toronto, including Iggy and the Stooges, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, the Police and of course U2 when they first toured. This woman can tell you stories about so many artists and concerts and has impeccable taste in all areas. But, alas, at 56 years of age, her two fave bands and obessions are Pearl Jam and believe it or not Linkin Park. For some reason she loves Linkin Park. I have no idea why.

well hard rock?! well i grew up on deep purple which then went to led zepp, which then led to pearl jam, alice in chains, soundgarden which then led to sepultura, ministry, which then led to TOOL. i like TOOL and NIN connections too. its a shame we never saw the project between maynard and trent. it did sound great, i think it was going to be called wormhole or something like that. but then we got puscifer?!

then add to the list, NIN, the deftones, a perfect cirle.

and the blessed FAITH NO MORE!

emo was invented for what? for the kids to say their lives are shit because their mom and dad wont let them wear guyliner because you look like a twat? so ill moan, lock myself in my room and self harm because mom and dad took away my guyliner pen?! or people around me dont understand the way i feel because my feelings are not like theirs? fecking grow some balls mate, stop being a pussy.

at least when we had the dark bands the goth bands, lyrics they wrote had deep dark messages, but with some light somewhere. but the cure, at the same time wrote some dark lyrics like 1000 years, but still had magic in just like heaven. sisters of mercy again, another great goth band i grew up listening to.

most so called hard rock today is just macdonals music for me, fast food music i call it, to sell loads. thats sell out!

Tapeworm! Now there's a project that would have been awesome.

And it might sound sick, but at least Kurt Cobain and Ian Curtis weren't just making it up, if you know what I mean. Those dudes were actually tormented and weren't just in it for the money.

And even if Rage and FNM reunited recently just to make a load of dosh, at least they were playing music that was worth it!

From Coachella a week ago.  Awesome!

then add to the list, NIN, the deftones, a perfect cirle.

and the blessed FAITH NO MORE!

emo was invented for what? for the kids to say their lives are shit because their mom and dad wont let them wear guyliner because you look like a twat? so ill moan, lock myself in my room and self harm because mom and dad took away my guyliner pen?! or people around me dont understand the way i feel because my feelings are not like theirs? fecking grow some balls mate, stop being a pussy.

at least when we had the dark bands the goth bands, lyrics they wrote had deep dark messages, but with some light somewhere. but the cure, at the same time wrote some dark lyrics like 1000 years, but still had magic in just like heaven. sisters of mercy again, another great goth band i grew up listening to.

most so called hard rock today is just macdonals music for me, fast food music i call it, to sell loads. thats sell out!

Awesome!

lets face it lady gaga might not be to everyones taste, but it screams 80's electro to me, and lets face it, these modern artists must be doing something right!

Electro pop- overrated
Lady GaGa- ultra-sellout

These modern artists are doing nothing except overshadowing good old rock music with their stupid commercial pop. These are the modern artists who are dong things right:
U2 (of course)
Arctic Monkeys
Biffy Clyro
Editors
Linkin Park
Muse
Pendulum
Radiohead
Sub Focus
30 Seconds To Mars
electro-pop is not overated. i really think you need to do some research on stuff before you go slamming it pete. learn your history on electro.

so the gorillaz are overated are they? aphex twin is? prodigy? you mention pendulum, excuse me last time i checked they were electro-drum and bass, with more of a pop edge, ie electro pop.

is kid a by radiohead, the band you mentioned, main influence electro?

Rage Wooot!!! Is that the free concert??? I think I remember you saying you won tickets. Awesome!

Saw Rage in 95, and then again when they reformed in 2008.

Qwwwitttitnoww!!!

Mate here's me rocking out to FNM a monthor 2 back on the hottest day of the Sydney summer (45C).

I'm man enough to admit to sheding a tear or two when they came on.

It had been 13 years dammit! Wifey was laughing her ass off at me! lol

IMG_9639.jpg?t=1272371044

50000 peeps on a racetrack 50ks west of the city with Janes Addiction as support! Good, good times!

Then we saw them in the city the following night.

I'm looking forward to telling my kid in twenty years time that they were at two FNM shows in utero.

Wifey reckons the little one was kicking her in the guts for the whole show!laugh.gif

Me, wifey and child to be.

IMG_9645.jpg?t=1272374254

And as you can see on the sign, Faith No More, like U2 are total sellouts!

You know, another band I would love to see is LIVE but alas, they never ever came/come to Ireland.  I met an aussie in the pub one time who said he saw them out yer way and said they were brilliant.

U2 have become the biggest sell outs. The only interest in fans that this band has is making money from us now.

I used to think we got a fair deal, they deliver awesome music and we pay for it.

Now the deal seems they dish up whatever crap they can find be it remixes or greatest hits of the greatest hits in a different order or the remasters which are just making them money off something that has alreadty been released and lets face it, the remasters just seem to be louder than tthe original releases.

This band is on the biggest money grab of all time. What in flap is going on? When will the music actually count again? Or maybe it wont because the back catalogue is bringing in enough and around the corner there is going to be some other bullshit they find on a shelf and dust off and dish up for us to buy.

Something has got to give! I am losing interest in U2 very fast. These days I just wonder what shit they are going to come out with next.

Paul McGuinness is kidding himself about piracy because I think piracy is going to be used as a safeguard to see if the next thing released by U2 is a pile of shit or is actually worth slapping down the hard earned to buy.

No more bullshit U2, make a fucking decent record!

Your mom was a sell out last night.

I reckon the 360 claw show is well worth the money of the ticket. NLOTH is quality and FEZ imo is a classic in waiting. I dont agree with any of that crap!... unless the super deluxe DVD does come out at £110.00, then i might change my mind! :P

Have you changed your mind now?

My buddy is Rage Against The Machine's FOH engineer. I heard that they will be doing a bunch of one-offs overseas (outside of the U.S)....I'm thinking festivals. Still no sure which countries though. My buddy is juggling FOH gigs between them, Guns 'n' Roses, Justin Timberlake, Motley Crue and Janet Jackson.

Every band out there is a 'sellout'! Only those that haven't made it to a higher level aren't. Sponsorships make tours happen....even for those so-called 'indie' bands.

Do I even like Faith no More?
Probably not Mr Panth.

In your country they're considered one hit wonders.

In the rest of the world they're considered as rock Gods.

It'll be OK mate.

Just get a copy of Angel Dust or King For A Day, Fool for a lifetime and hit yourself about the head with it.
