Bandcompletely was a cranky bastard, but he had made up one of the best stories I ever wrote - the one about the guy whose abusive ex-wife tried to kill him but she ended up dying in a motor accident on the American/Canadian border when she followed him up North while he was on his way to meet a girl he had become friendly with online.

...Ok I just have to ask this - are you saying that you believed that someone was going to blow up a boat with Bono on it; or blow up a Vertigo concert or something along those lines and have you framed for it??? eek.gif

This all does sound like an Angelina Jolie movie but I guess as has been said before that's not to say it did or didn't happen...

No, I am not saying that..  I was just sharing that at that point, things were so weird and so bad, I was not going to take any chances.  Besides, somebody was quite mean and unnecessarily so, which just turned me off even more.  By that point U2 and "mean" had become nearly synonymous, and I was pretty much fed up and indifferent to the whole mess.  Only the aftermath still bugs me.

But...I am very happy to see that the Zoo seems to now be operating in the range of acceptable civilized behavior
:-)  Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating!

@ security, i cant imagine these things really happening. reminds me of that sandra bullock-movie. but that dont give me the right to say you're story isnt true... i do hope you're okay now.

Yeah, well, there is no reason for me to make such things up.  I gain nothing from it except the therapy that stating the facts outloud brings me.  And to let any of the scums responsible, who might be reading, know that I will not forget this, even if it has to sit on a back burner for awhile.

You have a hard time imagining, Barbara?  Well, ultimately, the success of 9/11 was chalked up to a profound failure of imagination.

I spent years, beginning in 2003, along with a team of other analysts, warning of the use of web media by terrorist and insurgent groups and developing strategies to counter their activities.  Many of those briefs fell into black holes--misunderstood, not believed, discounted, whatever.  It helped when al Qaida started beheading people online.  People were shaken into belief a bit by that action.  A bit late for the poor hostages, however.  And, gee, it took the terrorist attacks in Mumbai for people to wake up to the fact that--oh, wow!--terrorists are organizing themselves with blackberries!  And this from some of our, allegedly, best and brightest in the Capitol....

I am not arrogant.  But I am very rarely wrong.  And, I don't have to be right, but I almost always am.  And people rarely listen unless they have known me long enough to know that I am usually correct.  I cannot tell you how many times I have ended up in professional environments--recently even-- where something truly wrong is being perpetrated, and despite my warnings and efforts to improve the situation, I go unheeded.  And then I am stuck, almost every time, with having to put myself through the torturous moral process of not saying "I told you so...." and not taking pleasure in watching those who dismissed me get kicked in the teeth by exactly the boot I was warning of.  I swear, many of them deserve to be kicked in the teeth.

Believe what you want, Barbara.  But it is an immoral disservice to suggest to the target of crimes that nothing really happened.

I am fine now, thank you.
very rarely wrong, huh? I've got a proposition. I will pay for the gas and admission.....to a racetrack....I will also pay for the bets. 9 races....you pick the winners....we split the winnings? What do you say?

Cute, Peter.  :-)   But, no, I am not talking about gambling or guess work.  I am talking about being able to, most of the time, assess information critically, identify the patterns in seemingly random arrays of information,  and project likely outcomes.  This is something I am very good at, and, most of the time, I am correct.  It is why I was so good at my work, and why I am so upset someone interfered, and why I will not forget this or them, and why I know I will be able to rebuild and eventually be able to do something about those folks.  But I wish you well at the races!

honestly...i don't go to the track or the casinos.....but i have been on other band websites where these same things seem to happen.....ie....careers are allegedly ruined, threats are made, hacking is rampant(again, allegedly) I am not sure if it is the same people running around perpetrating these crimes.....but it is an interesting phenomenon......

This is interesting, Peter.  And I had not realized it was not an isolated event. That is worth knowing.  Technology moves faster than laws, law-makers and enforcers can keep up with.  But, they do catch up eventually.  And, nothing that is done on the web is lost forever.  Almost everything can be tracked down.  And cybersecurity is at the forefront of concerns now and considered integral to national security.  Certainly, my and other targets' allies are increasing. wink.gif   Tell me, if you recall, what types of careers did others who complained of such things have?  And on which boards? Do you remember?

if i was to tell you that my life would be endangered.....

So send me an email.  There is a saying, which I am sure you have heard:  "the only thing needed for evil to prevail is that good people do nothing." And there is already much testimony to the capacity of some members on this board to facilitate evil acts.
