Policing Of The Site

Can't see much that has been removed by mods in past few weeks, a few overly expletive comments and one or two nude pics thats all..

If you can point out which section / topic please, and who posted. Sometimes people delete there own content so maybe that was the case here.

Hey BW quick questionhow can a picture of an album cover by THIS band be deemed unsuitable for their own website>?

Probably best explained by Steve Averill in his talk at the weekend at the U2 Conference (why that image was used, and then subsequently 'edited'). As far as the Zoo goes, it falls under the no nudity policy in the House Rules. Might seem a contradiction as it was used unedited on the album originally, but this has come up before many times in the zoo and those who posted it again recently are aware that we have asked before it doesn't get posted, yet like to cause a stir and post it regardless just for that reason I suspect.

I guess its all about context.

Cheers Man and you know what I must have genuinely missed the previous explanation of it because Its the first time ive asked about it.

Paternalistic?  a bit sexually bigoted don't you think.

For all we know paco, the terms of service were wrtitten by the band members themselves.

I didnt write them....are you thinking that?

We all signed-up and joined I hope, having read them.

Have you read them?

protecting young children is not sexually bigoted...what are you trying to say?

I agree w/ Spicy on this.

Besides, just because Adam did something in the past doesn't mean it should be glorified now. He did a semi-pornish photo. He was also an addict w/ drugs & alcohol, but he has thankfully moved on from that. Good on him 4 it. Please don't get me wrong - I totally appreciate art - but we do not have to agree w/everything just because it's called 'art.' Long-time zootopes know enough to know if they're about to cross a line, but some go ahead & do it anyways. (Not saying that was the case here.) Making Bigwave defend himself over & over is so often unnecessary & often could be avoided in the 1st place.

That being said, I do think it might be an easier & happier experience all around if some of the recurring difficulties were given a section in the terms of service that simply state some particular things that will be kept off the site. :)

On Second Thought: My bad: I just double-checked the 'Terms and Conditions' & it's already there:

"You agree not to submit or post any User Content that:...is...sexually explicit..."  Slam dunk.

No-one was making Bigwave defend himself over and over a question was asked and was answered and I am sure if Bigwave felt he didn't need to respond he would not have,.......as for your comment "Long-time zootopes (it's Zootops btw) know enough to know if they're about to cross a line, but some go ahead & do it anyways." who the hell are you to say what we can and can't do what some folk think is crossing a line others don't and I am sure that many many Zootops with many many years under their belt may not appreciate someone coming in here and gobbing off  trying to tell them this pish you are spouting.

"who the h___ are you to say what we can and can't do"

Uh....It's u2.com telling u what u "can & can't do." (I think it's also just the general, long-established reasonable rules of civilization but....) Also: they are u2.com - & since you're on u2.com...well, I hope u don't also wonder why they can tell u what u "can & can't do" here. That would be a hopeless question to try to address.

"No-one was making Bigwave defend himself over and over.."

No need to take things personally. I was addressing the phenomenon in general - not u personally. I mean the phenomenon of the same types of things being done over & over by some people who can't say they don't know the house rules. And yes, in general, people acting like that has had the effect before of making bigwave have to defend himself to the point of him having to ask people to stop making it about him. I didn't say - or mean - that your question did that in & of itself. & I was glad to see some people say they don't blame the mods. Obviously I don't think people should follow the House Rules just for the sake of the mods & site manager, though - I also happen to generally agree w/them as some other members do. (& despite what someone else said, there are 14 yr olds here & other minors on the site.)

But, my way of thinking on it is: if u can't find a way to write a letter to the site's management or something like that - I mean above the mods & bigwave - to express your difference of opinion w/the House Rules, then I just can't help wondering - why keep making it something the mods & bigwave have to deal with - over & over - when u know it's not going to accomplish anything except giving them a hard time - more unnecessary work - & giving them negative things to have to deal with? (Unless u enjoy that?) Of course, they could speak for themselves on it - or not - anytime they'd like, but the thing is, it's not about that - what I'm saying isn't personal about them - it's just common sense & courtesy, imho. I personally prefer not to give them unnecessary work. But hey, that's just me. I totally, 100% appreciate anyone asking a question to try to understand something. But most of the time it's not asking questions like that. Most of the time, it's not something worded very nicely like Scout took the time to do either (even though my opinion is different from hers on this one thing anyways). Most of the time it's behavior - purposely breaking the u2.com rules, which, imho, is usually just an immature thing to do. Sorry, but that's just how I feel about that. Please don't assume that I feel personally negative towards people whose behavior I disagree with sometimes, either. Also, I personally have never reported anyone for anything they've ever done or said, so don't think that that's where I'm coming from, either. But most sites would not have put up with purposeful, repeated breaking of rules since it's unacceptable to keep breaking rules over & over on purpose & apparently expect there should never be consequences. I'm not the only member who thinks & feels this way. And obviously the people who run the site agree, too. And I can only imagine the band agrees, too, since - after all - this is their site - & these are the rules on their site. So...I'm just sayin'.

P.S. Thanks for being nice enough to let me know if u think I'd appreciate knowing I'm mispronouncing something. But since I don't say "zoo TOP ee uh" - but I say "zoo TOPE ee uh" - then I say zootope - like some others do. If I say tomayto & u say tomahto - well, if there were an engagement here, u could just call the whole thing off. ;)

Wow. I can't believe I read that.

I feel like I'm sitting in a bath tub full of boredom.

Hands in the air vote.

Who preferred it when Basher1 and other such entertaining people ran amock on this site, much to delightful bemusement of the 1000 regular people on here?

Or,

Who prefers it when those self righteous types who have been here for a short time carry on like Bono even knows how to turn on a computer, and believe Adam's magnificent wang is "semi-porn"?

It was semi something.

Aaaaanyways, I personally do find it greatly disapointing that Live Nation's T&Cs have stripped this place of the awesome joy it was once full of.

I don't blame the mods at all, but I do wonder after enough time in here getting to get a feel for their personalities, how even they don't just pack it in.

BW, Baja, Max, come on fess up. You know this place is pants compared to the first five years.
And through no fault of your own.
Do you enjoy modding this place anymore?

Adam wang removal? Can't be much fun.

Oh wow. I read as far as "self-righteous types." As opposed to those who call others names when they don't even know them?

"have been here for a short time" ?? Whatev. I've been a U2 fan long enough, thank you. Just because I haven't been in your personal vicinity to your satisfaction don't make me no nevermind (translation: doesn't bother me a bit) seeing the way u treat people.

So...you seem to have an extraordinary level of need to see Adam's 'special place.'

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyhow. Not takin' the bait. It IS a good thing not to misquote people, though.

Anyone who hates reading - if u wanna skip this one, feel free to. You're excused. ;)  (1 reason it was good to have the blogs, btw.) This is for people who enjoy human psychology. I love people, so I like trying to understand why they feel the way they do. It has to do w/something BigWave mentioned when he said "this has come up before many times in the zoo and those who posted it again recently are aware that we have asked before it doesn't get posted, yet like to cause a stir and post it regardless just for that reason I suspect."

I literally think - & I say this sincerely, w/no venom or judgement towards ANYone - I think the "stir" that just a couple of people "like to cause" sometimes is possibly their Fix. Literally. (Yes - I mean physically - as in: addiction.) And even though I don't think there's such a thing as a good addiction (since it means being a slave to something), it's not my point. My point is they could also stand to realize: there are people who love fun as much as they do but have their own idea of fun - & don't need that particular fix or see the point in it. It's like comparing apples & oranges. Just different ideas of fun.

Also, I think there are always fans 4ever hoping that the topmost 'higher ups' at u2.com - BonoLarryEdge&Adam - bono_happy.gifedge_happy.giflarry_happy.gifadam_happy.gif - will actually, literally be in touch w/them somehow - & that's part of the feeling or psychology of taking things personally - taking it to heart - if they feel in any way that they're being treated impersonally. I think someone compared U2 negatively to another band where band members walked out into the audience. I understood the desire for more U2 personal content. We're all here because we love U2 (in general).

But I think people shouldn't take things personally or let it get to their heart. It's just a website. ( :o Oh no she didn't.) You'd think that only teenagers would expect a band to be giving them a perpetual party every single day of the year - including at their website. Here we are now 3120.gif- ENTERTAIN US!19.gif  ADHD? I know I'm not the only 1 who realizes it's expecting too much from a band to make their website 100% exactly everything that every member would choose. Also: it's just their website - not a concert. U2 does so much for its audience & I think they do a fabulous job of having the stage extend out into the audience & having a 360-degree screen so there's not a bad seat in the house, etc. No one in our world gets everything they want. Dictators of entire nations don't. No one does. We all live w/other people & have to balance our wants & needs & ways of seeing things w/theirs. Many of u are creative people. Make some fun! So while you're in the process, u need to put an asterisk in the F word instead of a 'u' - so what? Waaaaaahhh. (Want some cheese w/that...oh nevermind.)  SNAP OUT OF IT! Be grownups! And Party! No one gets everything, but everyone gets something. It's a balance. I did agree w/whoever said basically: give us more exclusive band content & band news.

No one is a stronger advocate of freedom of speech than I am. But u can't yell 'fire' in a crowded theater if there's no fire. Or advocate terrorism. Etc. Everything gets guidelines in life. I used to speak the way Scout does about it here. But months ago I realized: it's not as if u2.com is a news outlet like CNN which needs to be totally free to report on things like government corruption, etc. If the govm't tried to stop that, that would be censorship. & if mods took sides in debates by applying Terms & Conditions unequally to different people, that would be wrong, too. But that's not what's happening. So what's the big crucial principal worth causing a stir about? Supposedly a 'need' to swear & put naked pics here(?) - otherwise, it's supposedly impossible to have fun? Someone said there are no 14-yr-olds on the site. But of course there are. I've spoken w/ a few teens myself here. Grownups are always reminding kids (since children need to be reminded) that the world is not an anything-goes place. That's because it's not. It's not anarchy - it's civilization. It's not really asking too much to expect grownups to show they can follow rules, too.

I'm an activist - & just about the biggest issue I'm passionate about is the fact millions of my fellow countrymen & people in other democracies are patronizing someplace like China - which truly does not allow freedom of speech. Why do we allow that? How can people in good conscience take part in that govm't profiting off of putting people in prison for speaking? In a way, it's like patronizing slavery. (Shout-out to PacoBear :) : I mean 'patronizing' as in 'being a customer of.') Anyways, at least in the forums the software allows mods to delete just a single comment or photo. In the blogs as they were, the problem was that an entire blog would have to be deleted just because of 1 comment left on it, which was not fair to the composer of the blog if they weren't the one swearing or whatever. At least now no one is being penalized for something someone else did against the rules. Of course it would be great to bring the blogs back w/that glitch smoothed out. Peace.

Peace.

hmmmmm couldn't help but notice no response to the "abused as a child" comment Alma.....

and also accusations of people who like to cause a "stir" i'm of the opinion you are one of these people who is happy to tell or point out to people their faults etc but if someone tries to do the same to you God help them. And at that I think I should really stop responding to your trolling as I promised the Mod's I would be a good boy.

BW, Baja, Max, come on fess up. You know this place is pants compared to the first five years.

And through no fault of your own.

Do you enjoy modding this place anymore?

I honestly don't give much time comparing "back then" vs "right now"... I honestly believe doing that is a monumental waste of time...

to have the exact same Zootopia of 5 years ago, everybody should be the same people of 5 years ago... meaning with this that nobody would have changed in that lapse of time.

Something I think it's not only impossible but also something I wouldn't like for anybody. Change happens, we are not the same people we were in the past, the conditions of what surrounded us are different, what grasped our interest in the past might very well doesn't grasp it now, etc, etc... we might like it or not, but it happens. I suppose is up to us to adapt to it or not...

hey, even the band didn't have the same kind of album back then, on those so called "golden years of Zootopia"...

I can't tell you about what was to be a mod 5 years ago compared to today - since I wasn't one back then. But for what I've observed, in that I see a strong resistance to change: same fights and discussions, just different names...

and, since you ask us to fess up... I honestly find strange that people, from time to time, come here to complain about the zoo of now and how it wasn't like the zoo of then, but never ever have seen anyone doing something to works towards make that goal possible. As if it were something magical that should happen by itself, just by mentioning it...

The Zoo of five years ago had mods too, and it was what it was. I would think because everybody did something for it to happen...

Why right now it's that hard to do it? I really don't know...

Adam wang removal? Can't be much fun.

"have been here for a short time" ?? Whatev. I've been a U2 fan long enough, thank you. Just because I haven't been in your personal vicinity to your satisfaction don't make me no nevermind (translation: doesn't bother me a bit) seeing the way u treat people.

Oi! Don't knock Mick! Mick is awesome! You can't say that this is how he treats people given that you've only just met him. He is a really cool, nice guy, so it's a bit weird you saying that when you've only just met him.

I only joined about 3 years ago, so I really couldn't say whether or not this place is as good as it used to be. But right now it's practically empty, so it is a bit boring!

And yeah, welcome back Mick! Nice to see you here again!
