Adam To Swap Dublin For London

Recommended Posts

U2 member Adam Clayton and his new bride Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho are to make their home in London where she owns a house in Westminster.

The happy couple tied the knot in a Dublin registry office last week but are planning to hold a second wedding ceremony in the south of France, where all four U2 members own holiday homes.

But for the foreseeable future 53-year-old Clayton will hold on to his Danesmoate mansion in Rathfarnham, where the couple and select friends and family partied after their nuptials.

The bassist will become the first member of the group not to be based in Dublin. He also owns a luxury home in New York.

Their marriage certificate indicates the couple will be based in London, where 35-year-old Mariana works as an associate director of the prestigious Hauser & Wirth art gallery.

But Clayton is certain to miss Danesmoate, which he bought more than two decades ago when U2 first started to earn some serious money.

The certificate gave the Rathfarnham property as his current address, but listed Brazilian beauty Mariana’s London home as his future address.

It was at Danesmoate that U2 recorded breakthrough album The Joshua Tree back in 1986.

He reportedly paid €380,000 for it and has had extensive work and renovation done on the 18th-century stately home.

Earlier this year he applied for planning permission to build a security hut at the gates of the property, which is situated in the foothills of the Dublin mountains.

But Danesmoate must also harbour some bad bemories for the musician, as his former personal assistant and housekeeper Carol Hawkins is currently serving a jail sentence after being found guilty of
thefts from the star amounting to nearly €2.8million.

He had relied on her to run the household for him while he was away on tour, on holidays or recording.

The group is still working on its long-awaited new album which probably won’t be released until next year.

Clayton was previously engaged on two occasions. In the 1990s he asked volatile supermodel Naomi Campbell to marry him, but the relationship soon dissolved.

Then, in 2006, he was engaged to Suzie Smith, a pretty blonde music PA who worked for Adam’s manager Paul McGuinness’s Principle Management company.

The teetotal bassist once said: “When I look in the mirror I see someone who is incredibly lucky, who still has so much ahead of him rather than behind him.”

There is also speculation Clayton and Mariana may be starting a family soon.

The musician also has a young son from a previous relationship.

In 2011 he confirmed he had become a father the year before following a relationship with an unnamed French woman.
