What Good Thing Happened To You Today (Continued)

Recommended Posts

I finally got to stop into the second hand book/music shop that opened close by.

Got "U2 At The End Of The World," by Bill Flanagan for $4 and a Rolling Stones bootleg (Leeds 1971) for 50¢.

Carry over good thing:  I took my dog for an extended walk during the other night's storm.  Lake Michigan was roaring.  Everything else was muffled by flutty whiteness softly falling to the ground.  She had a blast.  I realized it was the first time I'd been there since Bruff, and now Riri comes first in my life.  Not imposing but I felt God.

Today's good thing:  Headache doctor appointment.  40 some shots in the scalp, forehead, temples, neck and shoulder blades.  It's not pleasant but it ends.  They are expensive.  I do not pay a penny.  A new headache treatment was offered to me.  It's a band that sends an electrical current into either arm.  The cost comes to eight American dollars for 45 minutes.  It's proving effective up to 85%.  They are also coming out with a powder from of Migranol (DHE)  The spray only delivers 40% of the dose, which costs up to $900 a day.  $9,000 a month when I use it. I do not pay a penny but it's nine grand that could be helping another person. This powder delivers the full dose and absorbs much more quickly.  The cost should start out much less than the spray and then go down as well.

I'm detailing the headache information in case anyone deals with bad headaches, or knows another who does. There is hope on the horizon.

I finally found the DS version of Guitar Hero - *with* the guitar grip accessory. I'm liking it so far, although I think it might have been easier to start on bass/rhythm guitar mode. I've got to the 1990s set list so far, which includes Oasis :)

My "Good thing" is I signed up for a local Jingle Bell Fun Run alternative called "Jingle in your Jammies" for those of us who cannot make the race.  By the way, the charity event's proceeds go to the American Arthritis Society because we need a cure!!

I reached the 50,000 words mark in my NaNoWriMo novel :D

The story itself is probably only about halfway through, but I've completed the challenge. Always good when I manage that.

I woke up and no dog next to me.  I got up and no dog on the couch.  No dog in the kitchen or anywhere.  I went back into my bedroom.  The little shyte had tipped over my laundry basket and made herself quite the little bed in my closet. Seeing her head poke up out of it is one of the cutest, most adorable things I've ever seen, albeit a naughty thing for her to have done.

Other good thing is I finally figured out how to resize pictures.  I had no idea how miserable I was without an Irish Terrier.  Now I've got another.  There's no way she's giving up this foam wedge I badly want to throw out.  I set it on the couch while I was grabbing other stuff to haul out of my apartment and she claimed her stake.

May one be found quickly.  I know a lot of people who suffer wth debilitating pain from arthritis.  I hope you are not one of them.

A friend called.  I have not spoken with here since before Christmas.  She suggested a film which was playing on PBS POV, here in America.

World Traveler-Hassan Fazili

It's a beautiful film/documentary, albeit heartbreaking to watch.  I highly recommend it.   I've very glad I watched it.  I got a deeper perspective into the plight of immigrants/refugees in our world.  The love in the family of Mr. Fazili is remarkable.

I finally added Nevermind by Nirvana to my CD collection. I was too young to know about them at the time, and had never really got round to listening to them before. But over the last few months, I've been exploring more of that early 90s rock and grunge on Spotify - partly prompted by the novel I'm working on, which is set in that era.

Then my best friend got me a HMV gift card for Christmas. Today I spent it and my CD collection feels a little more... caught up. I'm also wondering how the heck I'd never got into Foo Fighters before now. Can I blame Oasis for distracting me (and eating my money) for all those years?

Happy New Year!  We'll make it better no matter.  💪   Nice to run into you again, illumination70.   Where are my treats?   I can't resist those squares.   They be tasty..   Send some snap, crackles and pop due East, por favor.

After 55 days, almost to the hour, my new dog finally had the wiley leprechaun grin which only an Irish Terrier can give.   (Huge whew.)  I was really scared she wouldn't ever do it.  I was wrong.  She's been holding out.  I think she gave me my first one because I'm letting her get away with making walks three times longer than necessary before she poops  Poetic justice is a good thing this way today... 😁

2 good things for today (well, technically the first one started yesterday):

1) A local supermarket donates unsold food to community groups, with each group having certain days to collect the food from the shop. Dad and I went last night to collect whatever there was for our group. (We don't know in advance exactly what or how much food there will be). Piles and piles of unsold Christmas treats :D Some of which are good well into 2021 and the Panettone cakes are good until summer. But because Christmas is over, the shop doesn't want them. There was also a pallet-load of hundreds of mince pies, but we had to turn those down as there was no more space left in Dad's car!

We delivered the food to the community centre this morning, and even as we were going back to the car to fetch another trolley-load, people were already putting money in the donation box so they could have a Panettone. We got given so many of those that we were also able to give 8 to family and neighbours.

Other days, we get loads of veg that they can use for making the meals they sell. It's a really great scheme and so much better for everyone than just throwing the food away.

2) The second good thing is that I received some sketches that I bought on Tuesday from a Star Wars artist. I'm not sure if it was in here or the counting thread that someone posted the Adam Driver SNL sketch clip where Kylo did his own version of "Undercover Boss"? One of the sketches is his character "Matt the technician" from that

The other is a sketch of my favourite character Poe Dameron - and although I couldn't afford to buy it, the artist also included a free colour print of Kylo Ren from the newest film, which was really kind of him.
