Recommended Posts

If you have been up on stage this year with the band on the #U2ieTour you have a chance to do it again in Paris this weekend.

Many who have been up have been contacted already, but if you are one of those who we have not been able to get int touch with, please read this and send in your details asap

Huh?

Certain fans who already received special attention during the tour get special attention again? How about giving the fans who have never been on stage a chance to fulfill a dream?

Even though I have friends who fit the criteria and were invited to Paris for this contest, I cheer for the fans who haven't yet had their minute on stage.

AFAIK this is a special occasion ONLY for the live HBO event. The band wants to make sure that they have a "known" quantity that interacts with them well onstage and won't do anything crazy on live TV.

I agree, it'd be great to allow more people to have such an amazing experience, but since it's a contest of only those who've already been up, I hope you'll consider someone who wants to represent all of us and that's me: https://youtu.be/wVkpPIP5ROg

Thank you U2 and U2 Community/ Zoo Mods. I was on stage in Chicago 6/28/15 and sang Desire with the band while my new friend that day Shawn Golley who is nearly blind played acoustic guitar. It was one of the most energetic moments of my life, only behind watching my wife give birth to our daughter Evelyn this year months before the Chicago show & skydiving with my brother (2 separate events!). I hope I get the opportunity to represent the U2 fan community- I could feel the embrace of the crowd and the band and it was such a great feeling that I totally understand where the guys hit a comfort zone up there on stage. All I kept thinking was 'don't screw up and make the hardcore fans proud'.

We didn't get to perform the whole song so we have unfinished business! That's why we need to get to Paris :)

Here's a video of our performance, we come in around 2:30 mark around there. Please give Shawn and I your vote. Thank you! -Kevin Crabtree

Another 2 fingered salute to the fans, over 30 years following, going to gigs, buying merchandise, buying records, cds, dvds, books, fan club subscriptions etc etc just like millions of others and never once got so much as an autograph, cheers lads.

Or, depending on your gaze, a fantastic opportunity for someone other fans want to see back up on the e-stage, and on the telly.

Oh the suspense of all of this is KILLING ME!!!!!  We were never asked to submit a story or a "case" but I will say, that if chosen for this ultimate U2 honor, I will BRING it.   It would be really nice if a couple of fans were chosen, for different fan moments. We shall see, I guess! :)

I lack the ability to appropriately articulate the insanity that has become the pulling a fan up on stage, something that use to be spontaneous, fun & enjoyable to watch which now has become something else & not sure the band even pick anymore do they?? so yes this about sums it up for me.

I think for this if they were concerned about the fans, how about drop it or hire an unknown actor

I can only speak for myself, but when it happened to me, it truly was spontaneous.  Bono did not see me at all. I thought "oh well, I tried"...and then suddenly Adam came along, noticed me and went to get Bono. Truly the last thing I imagined was that any other band members had a say in the process.  I owe him big time!   Believe it or not, I actually can understand why there are people who might be annoyed/tired of the whole fan on stage thing, but I think hiring an actor to do it would be even less about fans. I think not doing it at all would be better than hiring an actor.  At least this way, there is a guaranteed fan up there. Just my opinion, of course.

Same here, edgesdancingqueen. It was totally random for me. I don't know WHY Bono picked me, but I'm glad he did. It's amazing to be pulled up on the stage by your favorite band. What made it mean even more to me was what I had to go through to get there. I've been a fan since 15 yrs old (maybe 7yrs old, but that's another story). My mom always went with me to U2 shows. She took me to my first concert ever at 16 yrs old on the Vertigo tour in 2005. Unfortunately, she got really sick last year and I lost her this year, 2 days before her birthday. I am heartbroken. There is nothing or no one that can replace your mother, but in that moment in time, when I was on the stage, I felt like everything was alright. Like there can still be light and a future and things can still go right. Shoot, I'm not even a dancer. My mom wore that crown and her spirit must have passed it to me that night. People thought that I knew beforehand that I would be on stage and I said "No". Things just worked out in my favor that night. That's all.

I, too, think this is sort of odd for the band. This has never been done before, am I wrong? True, it's better than having an actor up there, but should't a Parisian have their chance? Meh, who knows the reasoning. We can only guess.

The voting seems kinda scary. It's not even up yet, though, so I don't know what's going on.

Toyoracer, I loved reading your story.  And I agree, ideally, a Parisian would have the chance, but I think they want to maintain a level of comfort in knowing that the person they pull up won't do anything crazy.

Shannon387, I can imagine that would be really disheartening having a bad experience with staff. One time Dennis Sheehan yelled at me (because I was staring too hard at Bono in the hotel lobby hahaha). He actually meant well in the end, because Bono came over to talk to us, but boy was I mortified. I wanted to be swallowed up by the floor. But that is a story from another time and place, so to speak.

And yes, this whole thing IS doing my head in. The waiting and the checking for news!

Oh my goodness, they have posted the poll! My heart is pounding out of my chest!!!!!!!  If you want to check out the video I submitted, I'm under July 6 (Jessica). I also have a short U2.com video. I am making such a funny face at first because I stepped on my skirt and was worried that 20K people were looking at my undies. :-D

I think Amp has been up 3 times this tour, not sure though. But I am very grateful for your vote! I am a definite underdog, so I appreciate it! (((HUGS)))) :-)

I'm Mariel from LA 2! I am glad that they're letting us vote for up to 5 people -- I've been able to meet some of the other lucky folks on stage and it's a great group! I would be thrilled to see any of them make it to Paris even if I don't. Good luck to everyone else! :)

I've got to agree with you, this is unfair on those fans who have wanted to join the band on stage but have not had an opportunity. It should be a once in a lifetime moment yet there's people on social media revelling in the fact they've been on stage more than once already and now might just get to do it again!!!

I am just curious how U2.com was already in touch with a bunch of the fans to message them about the Paris thing before they posted it publicly asking for the rest of them to get in touch....

I'm also curious as to how they can put this together on the site and get people voting yet there's no news about the 2016 subscription package yet!

Glad to see Im not the only one annoyed at this whole thing...

No offense towards the fans pulled up. Though yes many on social media now use this as a status symbol along with meeting the band x amount of times

I made a comment on twitter about this and noticed I was instantly blocked by someone and her friends for daring to suggest being on the stage more than once (in the space of weeks) was a little unfair on others wanting to get on there once. Perhaps I hit a nerve!

Can't be sure but there does seem to be a bit of a clique with the e-stage and if you're not in it then you've very little chance of getting your opportunity. I hate this kind of behaviour, if indeed I am right. Although I can't blame the band for this, I think much is down to the individual concerned. Some have very little concept that others might be wanting a first time opportunity whilst they and their buddies are all pushing ahead!

FWIW, I sincerely believe everyone should have a chance at this, and while I understand the addiction of getting on stage multiple times in one tour (I am not one of those), I also am uncomfortable with it to some degree, for that very reason (i.e. everyone having a chance). I think it all comes down to the band's comfort level with certain individuals who are known entities, which isn't always fair, but is the reality.   I am not part of any cliques, and no one helped me to get onstage except Adam Clayton! I do consider my experience a profound honor and of course I post my experiences with great pride. Anyone in my shoes would. But if I have ever come across as showing off, that was never my intention and I would sincerely apologize.

As to how some fans found out before the poll was out, well some of them are very famous and were easy to track down, I guess!

No you haven't you were cool about it. ;) Its the nonsense going on in social media by a select & privileged few which is just exacterbating this. Im trying my best to ignore it

Thanks, Shannon.  It is a crazy frenzy out there, that's for sure!
