Will U2 be touring this year? (MERGED)

Recommended Posts

From everything that I've read, the band is back in the studio, writing, recording and working hard at getting the next album out.  I was little hopefully that that would be touring again this year.  But it's June and I don't think that is likely.  My guess is the earliest that they could possibly hit the road is 2017.

Hope whenever it is they tour the Midwest & the South this time! With the exception of Chicago, these regions were pretty much ignored. In St Louis we almost always get at least 1 show, but that didn't happen last time around. They should probably give me a free blu-ray of Paris, pick up my script cost for a year, send me all of the special CDs from this site(autographed of course),1 of every type merchandise they sell here, offer to let me hang with them for a week or so(at their expense) & have me sing back up on some of the new songs(doo-wop). I'll cover my own restaurant tips tho; Wouldn't want to appear greedy.

Nope, that doesn't seem greedy at all.  It's the least that they could do.  ;)

I exchanged emails with Willie Williams last week via his website.

He is optimistic that they will be on the road later this year.

That would be awesome.

I think next album will be out soon and the tour resumes. I think Australia and South America will be on the cards. With the next leg of the tour coming back to Europe and ending in North America ... last show in LA.

Only a guess thats all

My magic ball says they will aim to do summer outdoor summer gigs in UK/Ireland on back of SOE release, however my ball says this could be 2018/19, as other parts of the world are deserving of the bands attention. As they done the major venues last year in the UK/ IRE & Europe, it would be silly and unrealistic to expect them back in Europe 2017, bar the odd promo gig perhaps. It's just not early U2 anymore.

It matters not a lot to me though, just pleased that we know for sure that the band are cooking something awesome in the studio. The great thing now is that no matter where they play, or whenever that might be in the world - we can choose to listen in!

This whole period has just got an AB/ Zooropa thing about it for me, or a JT/ RnH vibe - two albums being released in relatively close proximity to each other - in the former, AB was out for 2 1/2 years before tracks were played live in Ireland to stadium crowds. In the later RnH tracks didn't air to stadium crowds in Ireland until over 4 years after it's release (in tandem with the AB + ZOO releases) - so its not like we haven't had to wait before!

'What time is it in the world?' God bless the internet! ;)

BONO SAYS SOE AND NEW TOUR ON THE WAY

Posted: August 03, 2016

By: Fernanda Bottini

Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton visited Valencia, in Spain, to attend a friend’s wedding last week. They were spotted at restaurants and took many photos with fans and hotel staff.

U2 en España met the band there and shared some big news. About Songs Of Experience, Bono said, "It’s not finished yet but you will like it. In terms of lyrics it is stronger than War, it has more clarity."

About the Innocence + Experience Tour, "the second part of the tour is for 2017," Bono said. "You might see a few things in September or October though."

Adam, who also was asked about the new album and tour, said, "Soon, in the next six months."

U2 will headline the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Sept. 23 and perform at Dreamforce on Oct. 5. Let's wait to see what's coming at these two events.

Hi, thank you so much Anj! Miss you!

The news was updated today with Brian Boyd's article on Irish Times. He shares more details about the tour.

I think on the back of Adams skype comments that summer 2017 looks good for further N.American dates, then perhaps a 'rest of the world' type jaunt? Who knows with the band. Very much dependent on album release date as to whether they kick off in Spring 2017 or summer. He certainly clarifies that indoor is the way they will go with 'experience' so for me that suggests a different route and no outdoor European plans for next summer.

Which kinda fits.

I think the Aussies/ southern hemisphere etc deserve some indoor stuff during my summer/ their winter. Hope so - would be nice to get some periscopes etc from 'down under'.

Just me guessin'. :)

He also leaned off the multiple shows in limited cities approach and stuck to indoors for the moment, so maybe back to 30 or so cities for a North American or European leg? How many are South America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan typically running these days?
