Record delay because of Trump?

Common man, I thought you were better than this. So tired of the Trump bitching. Democracy played out, let it run its course like its supposed to. First time the band has ever disaapointed me. Thought they were more grown up than this.

It's not all about Trump. It's about 2016 as a whole, and how the world is a very different place to when most of the material that may/may now not be on the album was written. They want to make sure what they release is relevant to the state of the world.

Its pathetic frankly (if it is true).

I love the band and the music and as I said in another thread I can just about tolerate Bono's preaching about aids, migrants and Africa I can kind of get that. But the Trump thing is ridiculous.

good points but the search or desire for relevance seems to be some obsession of the band. the bottom line is for some unknown reason they are very very liberal and they have the right to be that way but millions of their fans are conservatives for a reason. i don't see the point of talking about the SoE album for  years and it never coming. they said they would never do a heritage tour and now they are doing a heritage tour. they said they would never endorse a candidate yet they basically did whilst intentionally trying to embarrass the president-elect. and to top it off they can't  release a record until they feel like it matches their pity party? did sanity leave with Paul?

At the moment, the guy doesn't give the floor to some media...

He does get others to repeat his own words.  He insults and dismisses nations full of people and their culture with the wave of his hand yet he owes those people.  He descends as if the world turns because he exists.  He is an admitted liar; it is in print and his own words to which so many others now ascribe.  He does not unite.  He divides.  He breeds anger and resentment, which in turn produce hatred and violence whether he is present or not.  He dismisses the absolute core of America for a vote.  He is a whore to his own ego.  He takes family members and appoints them as his main advisor(s?).  He insults good and lays his own self down with that which pleases him at the moment.  He incites the masses to riot if he does not get his own way.  He is as a child who takes his ball and goes home.  He speaks of the size of his genitalia in a year of selection.  He leads less than half a nation into uncharted territory yet he will slit the throat of every one of them if it means he has more of a pulpit upon which he can adore his own self.  He knows what he does yet he does not know what he is doing.  The media?  He does not want the media unless it serves him because he knows they will reveal his skeletal truths.

He does not care with whom he quarrels unless it serves him.  He embraces yet he isolates us. He offends then makes no amends.  He descends as though he is a god.  He uses God when the media is present.  He plays on the fears and tragedies of the disenfranchised to further his cause while he revels in applause.  He falls to his knees and bends over for our greatest threats so they can be buds in an elite empire of power.  I can keep going but will stop with this:  Donald Trump may have won the presidency but he is not my president.  I reject him with every fiber of my being.  I don't know if U2 delayed their album because of him, but if they did:  May God bless them for it because this man can easily be our downfall.  You expressed your opinion so I get to express mine because this is still America, right?

so many puppets yet so few strings.

Moderators:  I do not want to break the rules of U2.com.  What I said is for dramatic effect to make a point.  If I am breaking rules, please tell me how and I will delete what I just wrote.

What you wrote is still within limits. Don't worry...

But perhaps we have to remember that while the discussion is encouraged, fights and insults are not - Discuss this and any subject you feel it's worth of the time, but please remain civil when doing it...

I decided to copy and paste and use it for something else.  It did not feel right.  The fact that I even had to ask gave me my answer.  Your recommendation to remember...told me I did the right thing so thank you.

I'm not sure what this thread is about or why it even exists.  AIDS, migrants and Africa?  That sounds like a great title for a novel or perhaps an epic movie or both.  Is that copyrighted?  If not, I'm going to use it somehow for something but I don't see it as preaching.  I see it as a very admirable attempt (and success) to make this a better world.

Let's not forget that Bono was part of convincing George W. Bush to fund AIDS relief in Africa and it has made an incredible difference. It may not be for us, but for millions it means life or death.  My doctor goes to Africa to help eradicate AIDS and crosses borders which are very scary.  He is one of my heroes.  I used two of my tickets for this tour so he could get good seats and see the show with his grandson.  Bono is also one of my heroes because he takes a lot of cheap shots for doing what everyone of us should be doing.  The only difference is he has a much larger and much deserved pulpit from which he can speak.  If you do not like it go get a beer and take a break but don't go after my heroes!   (Please)

From what I can infer; these comments are made because U2 delayed the release of their album?  So what!  Maybe they got better ideas or decided that their points of view were better expressed elsewhere or in a different manner.  Maybe they did it to see how many of us would bite when this thread appeared and write things best saved for later. (Me.)

It is their band.  It is their album.  They have always taken a stand and remained very true to it which is why I love them so very, very much.  AIDS migrants and Africa?  I need to respectfully disagree.  What is wrong with dedicating one's own self to bettering the world?   Isn't it at least part of what this band is all about?  Maybe I'm wrong.  I've been writing all day and need to sign off, go finish one last page and go to bed dreaming of Chicago on June 3, 2017!

I have no issue at all with the good he has done for global causes (Hell, I love Bono) - I do remain unsure for how long it should be put upon paying fans in an arena however. People have paid good money afterall to ultimately hear the guys play music. But thats fine I do get all that. Perhaps he should consider a tour speaking about these issues (seriously).

I think when veering into mainstream politics its not the right thing to do. It was a democratic election just like Brexit and I think alot of their audience may have voted for Trump on those stadiums this summer and it is alienating.

Please don't think I am inciting any arguments my intiial comment was a bit blunt but I am concerned that to much focus could turn on Trump or even Brexit as opposed to the music thats all. Both of which are very divisive subjects.

U2 have always been political. This is nothing new. I'm fine with it. I find their thoughts/lyrics thought provoking. I also don't mind they delayed the release of SOE. While I don't want, or think, the entire album will now be one big political thing, I can see why they want to consider adding a song or two on politics or whatever they're considering. This is U2. I'd personally be wondering if they didn't address political issues.

Release it when you're ready guys.

The world has known very well for decades what U2 is like. When people buy a ticket to U2, they have no reason to expect anything other than what U2 is. To get a ticket to that & then complain that U2 is being U2 - it's kind of like getting a ticket to a zoo & then complaining that you only went to see the elephants & giraffes & you don't know why you have to see the polar bears, too.

It's not true unfortunately that "it was a democratic election" & "democracy played out."

This was the 1st national election in 50 yrs w/out the full protection of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) that Martin Luther King Jr & others died to achieve. Because of the Civil Rights Movement, the tricks used to stop blacks from voting were outlawed. The VRA required states that were historically oppressive & abusive to blacks to get federal permission after that before making changes to their voting laws.

When we got a black President, some argued that America no longer had enough racism to make the VRA necessary. They got the VRA protections relaxed. As soon as that happened, southern states went back to their old shenanigans - and some new ones - to take away the voting rights of blacks, other minorities, & the poor. This time, a couple of 'heartland' states did also. A couple of northeastern states engaged in shenanigans also. For ex, Ohio fought in court before the election for the 'right' to keep the audit (honesty) function turned *off* on voting machines! They were allowed to.

What the voting-rights-abusive states had in common: Republican control. What those who had their voting rights denied to them had in common: they belong to 'groups' that tend to vote Democrat. One poli sci professor estimates at least 1 million Americans were denied their voting rights, & it's estimated that probably 3 million were. Add that to the almost 3 million more votes Hillary got than Trump: it's about 6 million.

Add to that the pro-Trump election-process hacking activity that people say Trump encouraged, & which 17 American intelligence agencies said Russia's Kremlin was behind.

Add to that the anti-Hillary, unprecedented interference in the election-process by the FBI director, which wound up, as usual, being only a witch-hunt against her.

Etc.

This was *not* a legitimate election. Trump is an illegitimate 'President Elect.' And w/Trump being dismissive of his own country's intelligence agencies while praising our enemy - Russia's former-KGB dictator - it's why people are calling him Treasonous Trump.

I think America still hasn,t found what they are looking for. I believe that there was no clear choice on voting day for most Americans and this is the end result. Really it could have gone either way and no one will ever know the truth behind the final standings.

As for the delay of SOE, it really does boil down to where it all sits in the mind of the band. Most of their albums have followed some kind of theme and they just need to tweak it a bit by the sound of it, so hold on to your hats and prepare for what should not be too far away

Yeeha.

U2 relevant? Not in the least. At the end of the day they're musicians and nothing more. Relevance goes out the window when you start siding with politicians that you cannot vote for.

I'll bet you that if U2 lost their funding from this multi album deal they'd be putting out that album stat. They need to be in an uncomfortable financial place again. You hear that guys? You need to remember the music comes first.

I know so many more dedicated (and talented) bands that don't make excuses for why an album isn't out or won't be.
