Friend Coming Later - Advice

Recommended Posts

Have 2 RZ for San Diego, I'm driving in the night before, friend is flying in day of.

I'd like to get there a little early (doors open) to stake out some spots by B-stage but not sure he'll be there yet.

Any advice on how I can get him in without having to meet him? Purchased tickets on my CC.

Thanks for your input!

For the credit card entry purchases, and I believe the Red Zone would fall into that category, all members of a party must enter together.

You will have to arrive at the venue together.  You will both proceed to the check-in area (directions will be emailed ahead of time by Ticketmaster), at which point you will be asked to show the credit card used to purchase tickets, along with matching photo ID.  Once those have been verified, you and your friend will be given your tickets and wristbands necessary for entrance.

Additionally, even if you were somehow able to enter at separate times, which is not possible, I think "holding a spot" inside for someone who had not yet arrived would be considered poor etiquette, and it's likely that the people standing around you would not allow it.  Afterall, why should your friend arriving after the doors open get a better spot than someone who's been waiting there all day?

Fair enough. I really meant just checking out good spots to see the show, not really saving a spot at the rail, which I assume will be gone if I get there at doors open.

Thanks for the answer though, he'll just have to get there earlier ;)

I had this situation with Tampa, and it was easily handled with great customer service. There are 2 Red Zone hosts that you should have their contact info when you get the email in advance with the details for your show- this is from my (RED) Zone info email:

If you have any problems on show day, please send a text to Emma or Kate on +1 818 445 4353.

I text and spoke to them the day of, and all the other person in my party needed was a copy of my ID for when they arrived (they had a hard copy but Emma said a text picture of it would have been sufficient). I got to the stadium at 3:30 and someone from the line gave out numbers (I was 45), and then when Red Zone check in opened up, I gave the red zone my friend's name. She arrived at 6pm and joined me on the floor! I also had 2 VIP tickets in another area and they arrived same time as my friend coming with me in the red zone, and I was worried about it as well as it being a separate entrance, it was the same situation and easy as well- I gave the VIP host their names in advance and a copy of my ID.

Thanks so much for the info. Part of me just wants to go down early and chat with other people and take in the environment before the show, but he's flying in, so I'm not exactly sure when his flight will arrive etc. That's great news though! Makes my life easier.

Were the line numbers fan run or was that from the venue? Based on your # where were you in the RZ?

I'm super torn because part of me wants to just chill in the middle of the RZ and have lots of space and enjoy the close proximity; while the other part of me wants to take advantage of getting there a few hours early and trying for a rail spot I would never otherwise get (can't camp/check-in/all day queue). Decisions!

Thanks for the info.

I have a single Red Zone ticket for one night of this tour, and I'm facing the same dilemma.  The spot generally doesn't seem good enough, compared to the RZ in the past, where hanging on the rail all night is easily the best choice.

I'm kinda lucky in that I'm seeing four shows, and the RZ one is the last of those.  I have seats one night, and regular GA the other two nights, so hopefully when I see what the thing actually looks like in person, I'll have a better idea of what to do.  I'm thinking about maybe staying close to the rail for the opening of the show when the band is on the tree stage, and then relinquishing the spot when they move to the main stage in favor of something less crowded.  But I thought I was going to do that during I&E as well, and ended up keeping my spot the whole time, so who knows.

I don't think there is anyway you two cannot show up together.  If I recall correctly from the Pgh show we (two of us, purchased by me, I had to show ID) were given our Red Zone credentials (ticket with lanyard and RZ and separate GA wristbands) at a little tent 50 yards from the actual security entrance and ticket scan.  After getting our RZ credentials we did go directly to the entrance but I think you could hang back and not go in directly.  This doesn't help your case but if for some reason one person bought multiple RZ but all did not want to go in early I think it is doable but you still have to get your wristbands at the same time.

Ya, I don't think it will be an issue, we're just going to go together.

What time did you arrive and how was your spot if you don't mind me asking?

The line numbers were managed by the fans at Tampa, and I believe the same at the Miami show.  From what I have seen on the forums, fans lining up earlier than the venue times has been pretty consistent- though Miami was days earlier than the Tampa show, however Tampa fell on a weekday which may have had something to do with it.  I had no trouble getting any spot I generally wanted for the Tampa show.  I took the rail at the bottom of the tree, though I actually liked our GA spot for the Miami show better.  For that we showed up at 4:30 and had a great GA spot just 20 feet back from the tree on Edge's side which we moved to from our original spot at about 5:45, so I gather we could have gotten even closer had we started off there when we first got on the floor.  For Tampa, I was battling whether to stay in RZ or move to GA throughout the whole show.  Tampa recap- I showed up at 3:30, was #45 in line and when the doors opened, I was on the floor at 5:10pm.  The people all around were great and when I left to get a drink or what not, they saved my spot and even one for my friend when she was able to get in at 6PM.  And when she arrived and we went to get our merchandise, people held our spot too.  Most people would have died for the vantage point we had, and it was neat to be able to look at the band and see the fans reactions in the front of the tree and the band did interact with our side too and we got to see them as they would take their places and go back and forth on the runway, but our vantage did not get the full scope of the screen in one go due to the angle, and the video is pretty amazing, nor the front of the band like when we were in GA.  Guess it's all a matter of perspective and still an amazing show no matter what way you slice it!

Thanks for the recap, awesome info.

Can you clarify a couple things for me?

1) you were #45 in the RZ line? Where did you find out about the line #? Was it when you arrived at the show or social media?

2) You had rail behind Edge with that #? Where was everyone else gravitating?

3) Did you stay in that space for the main stage performance as well?

4) In Miami, how many people is 20ft back? 10-20?

5) Are you saying you enjoyed your GA experience more than your RZ experience?

Thanks for the info!

We arrived at 630 pm.  Lumineers scheduled for 7 pm.  Easily able to get spot near top of tree in RZ just 3 rows back.  Formed a tribe with about half dozen die hard fans and we protected our space near the rail as we took potty and beverage breaks.  Even had an incident where a couple came late and snuck in front of us.  The verbal uproar was intense and after some negotiation and Security involvement they moved to the back of the RZ.   It was a bit ridiculous that we were all so close and were able to afford RZ and the charity involved with (RED) but we made  a stink about the two party crashes.  Thankfully it ended well with no one getting tossed out or a physical altercation.

1) you were #45 in the RZ line? Where did you find out about the line #? Was it when you arrived at the show or social media?  Numbers were only assigned when you arrived at the Red Zone arrival area by a fan who was at the front of the queue.  You would check in with them and they would write your number on your hand with a marker.

2) You had rail behind Edge with that #? Where was everyone else gravitating?  It was mixed, there is a camera boom that is on the side of the RZ stage which can block some of the view if you are closer to the bottom of the tree limbs.  Very few people seemed to gravitate at the bottom of the main stage- moreso runway and the tree.  Ryan Tedder (one republic lead singer) came down off the stage and ran around just along the inside of the rail at one point.

3) Did you stay in that space for the main stage performance as well?  My friend who was joined me was as happy as could be where we were situated, so we did end up staying there.

4) In Miami, how many people is 20ft back? 10-20?  Miami there was maybe 5 rows of people in front of us.

5) Are you saying you enjoyed your GA experience more than your RZ experience?  I did enjoy the GA experience more, but it was also my first show for this tour too which could very much have something to do with it.  My friend who joined me for RZ in Tampa was not with me for MIA and she loved it just as much as I had the first show.  You will too no matter what ends up happening!
