MacPhisto fansite

Recommended Posts

Since there is so much interest in Mr MacPhisto at the moment, I thought you might like to check out my dedicated MacPhisto fansite if you haven't been there recently or ever. Among other things I've added a brand new transcripts page for the EI Tour, which will obviously be expanded as the tour goes on. (It will take me a little while longer to bring this page up to date with the latest developments. This whole thing has come as a massive surprise - even though I argued that it was the perfect time to bring MacPhisto back, I never thought they would actually do it!!)

That's a great page!

I hope Bono knows about it! B)

Wow, thank you for putting this together! Some of those sound recordings of the live shows are truly amazing! I'm listening to 2018 04 20 Laval, Quebec, Canada IEM MATRIX on YouTube right now... my mind is blown. To hear them live, so clearly like this - the things we miss because of people cheering at shows - I am speechless! ?

Indeed, I'm so grateful to all the people who have streamed, recorded or filmed these performances so we can all enjoy them! The Laval speech is brilliant - I hope some more audio clips from the rehearsals will surface in time.

Many thanks for this and to another for posting a link of the transcripts. They might be one and the same.  It is really nice to read and listen to them..  I hope the bluray has a how did they do that documentary about scary Macphisto and Bono in front of that mirror.  It's one of the coolest yet most frightening things I've seen.  For me it was the definitive moment of both shows I saw.  It gave me hope even though it's scary.

Congrats on 360 posts.

Thanks, but really I don't want my status or ranking (whatever that is) to change to something other than "Ultraviolet." ?

Edit: Okay, it's "rank," - but Ultraviolet is such a good song - I'm going  to have to stop posting before I hit the next rank.

I was referencing the 360 tour, which I think you know but want to make sure.  I was being serious but silly.

Oops - yeah, I didn't get it! In my defense, it was rather early for me when I read that! ?

That's funny.  No excuses are needed.  I usually don't get it no matter the time of day or night.  haha

Thank you - I'm glad you've been finding the transcripts useful, and even happier that you considered MacPhisto a highlight of your shows. :) I really hope I'll get to see him for myself in London. That would just about complete my life.

I've been away for a few days, but I'll add the Philadelphia shows as soon as I can!

The transcripts for North America are now complete, so you can relive every wonderful speech from this leg of the tour. Please say there is more to come in Europe... lots of fun possibilities there, and I really want to see him in person!

Now to concentrate on getting the rest of the website up to date. I've been working on it, but there's just so much to say...

Sorry, I only just saw this message. Glad your friend liked the transcripts. :) I'm attending both the London shows, but I don't want to take it for granted that MacPhisto will be part of the European tour!

IMHO, I would be shocked if you didn't see MacPhisto yourself across the pond. (I do understand your thought process, though - it's better not to expect because, that way, you can't be disappointed if he didn't make an appearance. However, I don't think you have anything to fear.) There are plenty of issues to rage about that he could take credit for from 2015 onward (e.g., Brexit, Syrian migrant crisis, rise of far right-wing candidates who are occasionally winning their elections (look what just happened in Italy in their elections not too long ago), certain Eastern European countries not observing the Schengen Zone agreement - notice how most of these are just different effects from the same cause - the Syrian refugee migration). I also think Bono is having a blast playing the character - it went down a storm here.

In addition, the band got strong confirmation every single night about how much the audience loves having "Acrobat" in the setlist. Well, this live version of "Acrobat" and scary MacPhisto fit together hand-in-glove - I don't think you would get one without the other.

(Further, instead of the GOOYOW/American Soul pair of songs live, I think you're much more likely to get "Summer of Love" (perhaps paired with something like "Invisible") instead. The band has causes to address in the UK/Europe as they had here - you don't have anyone quite as embarrassing as our president and administration over there, but there is still plenty of grist for MacPhisto's mill.)

Absolutely - all of this is exactly what I've been thinking. There is so much MacPhisto could cover at the European shows, I'd be really surprised if they dropped his segment of the show. I would just rather be prepared for the possibility than get too excited and then have it ripped away from me! (I hope they don't pay too much attention to some of the negative comments on their social media accounts.)

I did think Summer Of Love and Red Flag Day would be more thematically appropriate for Europe than GOOYOW and American Soul (and I'd probably prefer to hear them), but the setlist seems so fixed that I dunno if they'll bother changing it for us, especially since GOOYOW was a single here.

Oh, I didn’t know that GOOYOW was a single there - maybe they would pair that with another song? I just have real difficulty seeing them play American Soul away from North America. (I’d be afraid it would be booed for the wrong reasons! ?)

Well, in any case, I think Mr. MacPhisto is going to materialize over there - get ready for your transcriptions! ?

Yeah, it was played to death on the radio so I imagine they'll want to include it. I agree about American Soul, the lyrics would make no sense over here... but then they still played it in Canada, and I'm not sure they would drop a high-energy song like that, unless they replaced it with something that felt very similar. (There's a thought: can I request Volcano instead?! It's one of my favourite SOI tracks and I was so disappointed not to hear it on the IE tour!)

I am so ready. I've been waiting 19 years for this!

Well, many songs on SOE are "variations on a theme" on songs from SOI (as you realized already, no doubt). The easiest to see is "13" being a variation on "Song For Someone"; however, as you noticed, "American Soul" is a variation on "Volcano" - I think you should go ahead and ask for it! :D (It is a great song, and one of my favorites from SOI too.)

Be sure your camera/phone has enough room for all the pictures/videos you will be taking!

I want the rhetoric to take a European approach to the concerns of our world.  I have been eagerly waiting to hear MacPhisto once he is gone and forgotten by America.  .
