DM have gone very political this time around - I think I have heard U2 (and other bands) playing this song before the shows:

Depeche Mode for me, too!  I have thought of starting a thread something along the lines of "Does any other band even come close, live?" I am a one-band girl, for the most part, but I have always really liked Depeche Mode and have heard that their live shows and fans are the only thing that rival U2 in terms of fan adoration...so I'm going to their Boston show on June 9!  First time ever seeing them!  4th arena show ever in my life beyond U2!  (Others were Grateful Dead so many years ago....Paul Simon even more years ago...and Arcade Fire last fall.)  So anyway, DM is my only other show besides U2 this year.  I'm excited.  Arcade Fire last fall were great. Honestly, their physical energy on stage made U2 look like they play their shows in a coma! But for me the experience was a tiny fraction of the luminous, transcendent experience of a U2 show.  The only two live shows that ever came close for me were Rusted Root in the 90s and Arrested Development at a tiny venue in Cambridge, MA in 2003.   I'd love to see Foster the People sometime. I couldn't get to their Cambridge show this past fall....and, oh my goodness, I just looked and saw that they are playing in my home state, NH, this summer!  But it's the night before the first Boston show and I will be down in MA, doing the hardcore GA queue thing!  Aargh!  Hopefully I'll get to see them soon.

Will this be your first time seeing DM, dmway?  Wait, does the DM in your screen name have to do with Depeche Mode?

It is a nod to them by way of pun - well-deduced! :D

No - I have seen them a few times: twice on the Devotional tour - the first time Alan Wilder was still with them, once on one of their "best of" CD tours, once on the "Exciter" tour, once on the "Playing The Angel" tour, and twice on the "Delta Machine" tour. So, this show will make it 8 (possibly 9 - I may have seen them twice on the "Playing The Angel" tour too; I'd have to check...)

I have not seen Arcade Fire, but a lot of my friends like them. You certainly seem to have sympathy for jam-oriented bands, but that's cool - I like them too. I saw Paul Simon on his tour for the "Surprise!" cd - that was wonderful! I know the Dead really well by accident - my younger brothers were big fans. So, I heard them playing them all the time.

Yes, the fans for DM shows are quite passionate - you'll have a great time!

Nothing beats U2, but a good DM show helps me until I can see U2 again.

I'm seeing The Head and the Heart tomorrow; Imagine Dragons opening night of Summerfest later in June; Kesha and O.A.R. and a buch of others at side stages for Summerfest  (11 days of music)  Stereophonics on 9/11.  Elton John in October.  Radiohead both nights in January..  Hoping to see ELO with Dawes as the opening act which segues into Dawes releasing a new album June 22.  When they headline, I'm at every show in any bordering state. There are so many great acts/shows touring or going to tour.  I think Kesha and O.A.R. are days I can get into Summerfest for free if I/we donate food to the pantries and such.  Even if not-$18 gets you in the main gate and there are over a dozen side stages in addition to the major ampitheatre where you pay less than the same act in other cities.  Lady Gaga was $300 in Chicago.  For Sumerfest, all they charged was $95. In two weeks there will be fireworks from Thursday thru Sunday for every weekend until September. I'll be seeing many free jazz concerts.  I'm also going to Ravinia to see The Chicago Symphony Orchestra do the 1812 Overture with cannons-along with several other classical concerts.  Most are ten bucks.  The CSO is $25 for the best seats and ten bucks for all others which are lawn and you can bring a picnic and bottles of wine.  There's so much live music ahead that I can't remember it all.  Ten bucks for the CSO under the stars?  Lots and lots of shows, doc,  Stereophonics is the one that has me most excited. The 1812 with cannons is pretty cool too.

I wish I was going to Depeche Mode.  I might be able to squeeze in Ed Sheeran but he's at a baseball park.  The closest seats are so far away from the stage because they need to protect the field.  I'm probably gonna skip him which is sad because he's very reasonable considering how huge he is.

That's a great selection of shows! I remember when Stereophonics opened for U2 - I enjoyed their set.

I love outdoor classical shows too. When I still lived in NJ, I would sometimes come up to NYC for those - they had many across the city, especially near/at the museums.

My next two months are chock full of shows (at the moment, just the 2 U2 shows, but I am doing my best to double that amount); however, I'm going to be a big tease and make everyone wait for the progressive revelations of them... ? ?

Yes, shows at baseball parks are a bit unusual in their seating; I prefer ones in football/soccer stadiums.

I think Ed would love to see you - maybe you should go anyway. ?

Taylor, foo fighters, Ed Sheeran, the pretenders and Simple Minds, the u2 x2.

Ah! The Pretenders! ?

I saw them twice when they were on tour promoting their boxset "Pirate Radio" (about 2006/2007-ish) - they were outstanding! Believe it or not, a year or two before then, I saw them open for The Who. Chrissy is a rock goddess, and I hope she tours forever - is Martin Chambers still drumming for The Pretenders live? (IMHO, it's only properly "The Pretenders" if he is on the drum stool as well...)

Edsel Records has recently released 2-CD/1-DVD sets of all The Pretenders albums. As soon as I found out, I ordered the first three albums immediately - those are and always will be the best. GREAT band... ❤️

WOW...if you can see them before the American tour ends, do so.

If you are in Europe and don't already have a ticket, get one...PHENOMENAL show! B)

Martin Chamber appears to be still in the Band, I did get one of his drumstick after a mid 90s gig, let’s just say it was heavily splintered

...and now I get to say that my next show is...

?

It will either be June 13th in Philadelphia, or, if I am fortunate, next Monday at the Apollo in NYC.

Don't know if this counts but the next gig I'm going to be at is my own gig that I'm playing with my band next Monday!

As for ones I'm going to, next up is Foo Fighters at the London Stadium with Wolf Alice and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.

A change of pace today...

I am also a fan of music before the 80s revolution - the occasional trouble with that is that many of those bands no longer are together and performing (or, in a worst case scenario, are already playing gigs in heaven). So, for the music of bands I just referred to, you need a high-quality cover band to pick up the slack. Tonight I am seeing such a band.

In fact, they are so impressive that tonight will be the third time I will have seen them from the end of December 2017 onward. Yes, they recreate the music that well. The source band is a very famous one: Genesis - however, the band I am seeing tonight center on the music of the band before the trio-version of the 80s. They play the music before Genesis became chart-toppers, when Peter Gabriel was still the lead singer and also when Phil Collins had just taken over the vocal spot, long before he became a household name. They are called "The Genesis Show" and they are amazing! I can't wait! ?

I actually worked at my second job last night .  The show I worked at was for "Little Big Town" at "Northern Quest Casino.  Here is one of their songs called "Tornado".
