CONCACAF Gold Cup

...and let’s not forget the men too!

The US Men’s National Soccer Team is in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final against their traditional rival, Mexico, at Soldier Field in Chicago. That game is Sunday night after the women’s team play in their World Cup Final Sunday morning - so, Sunday July 7 is Soccer Final day in the US!  (If we win, @Max Tsukino has to make sure we all have our annual gifts shipped out to us next week; if we lose, he may allow the delay to continue 😉😄.)

Also, for our South American friends, Brazil and Peru are playing in the CONMEBOL Copa America Final this weekend as well. A very busy soccer weekend!

...well, it was not to be. Congratulations to Mexico for scoring a great goal and then holding on to win 1-0. They deserved to win. Despite the game being played in Chicago, the Mexican fans were at least 2/3 of the crowd, if not 3/4. Team USA had many chances, especially in the first half, to score, but ultimately never did.

This was a nice tournament for Team USA for the future. Last year, they crashed out of World Cup qualification; this year, they got all the way to the final of our Federation's Cup tournament - not the best result, but not a bad one either. (Also, losing to Mexico is sure to annoy certain folks occupying a white mansion on Pennsylvania Avenue - so, not all bad. 😉😄)

Also, congratulations to Brazil for beating Peru, 3-1.

(There is an extra downside of the loss today - it is highlighted and underlined in the quoted original post. We will not be getting our gift anytime soon. 😕)

Finally, congratulations to the Women's team today! Great job!
