The above numbers, provided by countless numbers of individuals or groups of people, are dates of when they believed, or believe, the world would/will end.  As you can see that is a hell of a lot of dates, a hell of a lot of false prophecies, a hell of a lot of people thinking they know when the world will end.  But looking at these dates, there are a number of things that these people forget to realise and it is the biggest reason why most, if not all, will be wrong with their dates.

Hundreds of years ago, while Jesus Christ was curing the sick, resurrecting the dead and dining with the sinners, he said a few things that baffled his followers:  Ever since he said there would be wars, famines, earthquakes and disease prior to his return, individuals and groups have been quick to come up with dates, some based even on the most mundane of reasons.

ANYONE who provides a date for the "End of the World" is a "false prophet".  No one knows the date.  No one can know the date because not even Jesus knows the date.  The only person who knows the date is God Himself.

ANYONE who believes in ANY of the dates has been deceived. Don't listen to ANY of them.

You already know the dates above that have passed are nonsense (as the world has not ended) so why would you believe any of the dates yet to pass are any more likely?

People, if you are a believer in the bible, you should not be considering the WHEN.  WHEN is not the matter.  WHAT is the matter.

Look for the SIGNS.  This is WHAT matters.  You don't need to know the date.  You just need to be ready.  Be ready for WHAT.

This is WHAT (all taken from Matthew Chapter 24):
Wars and rumors of wars, famines, disease, earthquakes.
Followers of Christ will be hated by the world.
People will be easily offended, betrayers, haters.
False prophets will arise and deceive many.
People will lose love for one another.
The "Kingdom" will be preached.
A human entity will take the place of God.
There will be "great tribulation" in the world that never has happened before (nor will happen again).
There will be those saying they saw Jesus - don't believe them.
There will be people saying they are Jesus or they are prophets - some of them even performing amazing signs - don't believe them.
Don't even attempt to go where someone says they saw Jesus - that ain't Jesus.
When Jesus returns you won't need anyone telling you it's Him - just like no one needs to tell you when you see a fork of lightning that that is a fork of lightning.
Just look up because just before the end arrives:  The Sun will darken, the Moon will not give it's light, the Stars will fall from Heaven and the Powers of the Heavens shall be shaken.
This is the "return of the king".
But when will all these things happen?  No one knows the day, nor the hour, except the Father in Heaven.
It will come just when you least expect it.
You don't know when a thief is going to come and burgle your house but if you take the necessary precautions you can ensure you don't get caught out, likewise with the end of the world: you don't know when, you can't know when, but you can be prepared by being on the WATCH:

Ask yourself: WHAT are the Signs? Are you the WATCH for the signs

This is my take:

We live in a world where wars are on the increase, with some countries even threatening wars that can cause mass annhilation - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where there are so many countries that are dying of starvation every day - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where, despite advances in medical technology, diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, hiv and many other diseases are becoming more prevalent - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where there are earthquakes every single day - some are more destructive than others - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where talking about God has become such a taboo subject due to the advent of "advanced human learning" that most of the world is confused and have no idea what is truth anymore so that they feel any discussion of religion should be quashed - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where people are quick to take offense, we tend to hate people of a different persuasion, and tend to be more fearful of each other - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where humanity has tried in vain to solve all the world's problems but we have done so in vain as world events seem to be getting progressively worse - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where people believe they have seen Jesus, Mary and other saints and have deceived others while being deceived themselves - WHAT to WATCH
We live in a world where people have come along saying they were Jesus or a prophet and in so doing have lured many into death - WHAT to WATCH

I have been WATCHING and I KNOW that we are already in the middle of "great tribulation".  What each of us needs to do is be PREPARED for when it STOPS.

I see what you are saying Mummy and you are right that we should be looking for signs more than checking our calendars. I remember when I was young hearing all of these stories of the world ending and being so terrified of it - not wanting to die etc (not that I particularly want to right now as an adult either!) and spending that certain day wondering when on earth it would happen and then at the end of the day realising how silly it was to worry. But no matter what people will be predicting the end of the world - until the end of the world.

fasten your seatbelt
actarus, you can be so funny and to the point! i just love it...

and its strange, even before christ, people seemed to have been worrying bout the end of the world...  waisted lots of time predicting the 'when' , and following false leaders....when they could have used that time to make the world a little better (or at least try).
