Subscriber celticfc09 Posted June 29, 2010 Subscriber Share Posted June 29, 2010 im gonna say Chicago for both of the last two. Ive seen/heard dozens of live versions of Vertigo, none even come close. The Stories for Boys is one thing, but so is the beginning "let me teach you some gaelic: Uno! Dos! Tres! Catorce!" New years day just worked really well that night to. I feel like some of these songs get better as they get older and others lose their way. New Years Day is one that gets better. In the Under A Blood Red Sky era, both new years day and sunday bloody sunday had faster tempos. in the last few tours, the songs have been slowed down just slightly, but they sound soo much better to me. I did however love the Joshua Tree Live from Paris direct transition from October into NYD.
bflorendo
Next up: ELECTRIC CO. a. Under a Blood Red Sky (full version) b. Live from Paris (Joshua Tree Tour) c. Vertigo in Chicago I still like the Under a Blood Red Sky version. ...with Send in the Clowns. I actually have a copy of it. Again, Bono doing snippets....and that raw rocking guitar sound of The Edge. Bono up their on top of Red Rocks, in the middle of a storm singing....now that's rock 'n' roll! This was my 2nd favorite song of theirs, when I first started listening to them. The Vertigo in Chicago is not far behind with Bullet with Butterfly Wings snippet. This is one song that they should re-record in the studio!
Fortitude
I haven't heard Bono sing that song with gusto since the Rattle & Hum movie. It's now one of the most boring songs in their set if you ask me.

Subscriber peterferris8 Posted July 1, 2010 Subscriber Share Posted July 1, 2010 Ok, next song: THE FLY. a. ZooTV b. Live From Boston (Elevation Tour) c. Vertigo in Chicago I think the Elevation Tour version is great. U2 reinventing their songs at their finest. Yeah, the Boston version had Edge using more effects than on Zoo TV or Vertigo! Subscriber peterferris8 Posted July 1, 2010 Subscriber Share Posted July 1, 2010 Next up: Bullet The Blue Sky. a. Rattle & Hum DVD b. ZooTV c. Popmart in Mexico d. Live from Boston (Elevation Tour) e. Go Home f. Vertigo in Chicago My personal favorite is the Go Home version. The Edge's solo is not your typical guitar solo. He showcases his chops w/the right blend of FX. However, ZooTV comes a close 2nd w/his solo and the whole theme. Boston, with that bit towards the end. But Slane gets close to it! Subscriber peterferris8 Posted July 1, 2010 Subscriber Share Posted July 1, 2010 Next up: BAD a. Live Aid b. Rattle & Hum DVD c. Live from Paris (The Joshua Tree Tour) d. Live from Boston (Elevation Tour) This one's close, but in the end it's the Rattle & Hum DVD version for me. Which has snippets of Ruby Tuesday and Sympathy For The Devil. Especially when the reverb drums come in on those 2 snippets. Rattle & Hum again!
Subscriber peterferris8 Posted July 1, 2010 Subscriber Share Posted July 1, 2010 Next song: SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY. a. Under A Blood Red Sky b. Rattle & Hum DVD c. Popmart in Mexico d. Live from Boston (Elevation Tour) e. Go Home f. Vertigo in Chicago g. U2 360 h. Live Aid This one's hard! The one in Under A Blood Red Sky is responsible for getting me into U2, in the first place. It's raw, and has that attitude....it's still the best guitar sounding version. It's gotten a little lighter over the years with a change in the guitar sound. However, the Live from Boston version, with Get Up, Stand Up is also my favorite. It shows how Bono can adlib and display a staple of U2's live elements....snippets. I wish they recorded a version with Rock the Casbah. That also sounded great! Draw between Go Home and U2 360. Go Home has the Omagh message, but with 360 it's almost as if the song was waiting to take on that theme.
