Here's a parody of the song Exit from the album The Joshua Tree.

It's called 'Chex Mix'. Yes, it's now a song about Chex Mix.

But is it funny? Does it work? I leave that up to you good people to judge.

So judge away! And that means leaving some feedback.

REMEMBER...
EVERY U2 SONG SHALL BE PARODIED!!!!
TO THE THEME OF FOOD!!!!

*** 123 U2 PARODIES COMPLETED!!!! ***

-----------------

Chex Mix
Parody of "Exit"

You know he got the lure
You know he must obey
He used to not partake
To drive esteem in disarray
Undaunted, he'll receive
A huge glycemic load

With bread sticks salted heavy
Pretzels, nuts, Worcestershire, man
Onion powder vying
With a token garlic 'span'
Pats the growling within
Pats the growling within

He went deeper into sack
Peepers narrowed slight
He eats those bagel chips whining
They're curtailed outright
He keeps on eating
Eating
Eating
Eating handfuls of
Like a beggar
Pining for some drug

One lands in his socket
Eye injured by cornmeal
General Mills' ass levied
His lawyer, he would squeal
He keeps eating,
Eating
Eating
Eating 'til out of
'Til out of
'Til out of
'Til out of
'Til out of

See the vast landfill
Bags that won't break down
No land's rid of

Fair question.

Weird Al Yankovic is one of my idols. As are U2. Weird Al has done, at most, 3 parodies of one artist (Michael Jackson). No one has ever attempted to parody an entire band's catalogue before. Much less to one theme. I'm hoping to do what no one has ever attempted before, and it's also a personal challenge (can i do every single song to the theme of food AND make them funny?) and also it's a unique tribute to my favourite band.

If you read some of my past parodies, such as 'With Or Without Au Jus', or 'Sundae Fudgy Sundae', I think you'd agree there's something to this. A lot of people encouraged me to keep at it.

Conversely, Weird Al has done two U2 parodies. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (as 'Cavity Search') and Numb (in which he read Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs & Ham to the song).

I am not trying to spoil U2 songs. Rather, I try to highlight something that a lot of people miss about U2...which is their terrific sense of humour. Parody, as literary theorist Linda Hutcheon puts it, "… is imitation, not always at the expense of the parodied text."
