When I first pulled out the drawer one edge was scretched. Now I cant pull it back in because the upper level is lowered down so much. I got mine shipped from Amazon.uk to Australia. Very poor packaging - only a bit of scrunched up paper inside to pad the box. May have resulted in it moving around inside the box. A couple of dents in the top of the box too - under the magnets. The real problem with the drawer is that the top tray sinks into it now and will eventually rip the sides of the box. Amazon uk doesn't have any more stock either, so they offered me a 40 pound discount. Even though that brings the cost down to 184 pounds, I'd still rather a new undamaged one. Also, notice the Sydney DVD has the outside broadcast on it, but it's 20 mins shorter than the one I recorded from TV 18 years ago - less interviews and missing the bit at the end in the irish talk show. Sydney DVD is seperate to the Bonus Dvd which has the outside broadcast, which actually has When Love Comes To Town missing. My question is, is it basically Salome (the bootleg 3 CD set from the master recordings that disappeared from the earliest sessions)?----- Well, first off, if you only have the 3cd Salome, you should realize there was a later issued 7cd set. As for Kindergarten, I guess I'd say five things for a start: 1) there's a version of each song that ended up on AB - that immediately puts you out of Salome territory 2) on the other hand, you will instantly recognize some of the music from Salome, but everything is more developed - this is an intermediate between Salome and AB 3) it's revelatory - as an intermediate it answers some questions about development of the songs, there are lots of great yet discarded lyrics and lyrical pointers for Zooropa & Pop (maybe if you didn't have Salome and AB as context there would be no revelatory effect but, especially if you have both, it's essential) 4) it brings a sense of closure - I know for me there were songs on Salome I listened to over and over and over because they were great, but they were also frustrating because they lacked a sense of completeness and that original spark might have run in a different direction by the time you got to AB. On Kindergarten they are more complete and closer to those original versions (I'm looking at you Wild Horses) 5) there has been some limited whining about "new" vocals on Trying to Throw, but they seem to be lyrics that might have been from that point in the process and they easily could have been put in to replace a version full of shouted chord changes or something of that sort. That they made the effort to give us a complete album of versions is fantastic, and whether they needed a patch or an edit here or there is immaterial, certainly many fewer people would enjoy a "raw" file versus what they've given us. It's some great stuff that they may be more comfortable with us hearing than Salome. Certainly makes me wonder - and I really hesitate to say this given some profoundly stupid thefts from the band over the years (including Salome itself) - if the release of Salome forced them to shift more toward the final sound of the album. In other words, did they go through hell in the studio, then think they saw the light at the end of the tunnel, only to feel like all their effort had been throw in the fire and they needed to change the sound, because they might have been convinced if a version more like Kindergarten had been released on the heels of Salome that it would have lowered sales figures. I don't think that's the case given where Edge seemed headed, but I can't help wondering. I'm also still curious if B&E's Clockwork Orange music was similar to the final sound. I love Alex Descends..., but I suspect that's because of similarity to The Strange Party, not to AB. Also, (and I don't think this is just a context effect) it still feels like a whole album. That to me is slightly amazing as I've always had at least a couple songs here pegged as R&H leftovers and a couple more anticipatory of where they were heading with Zooropa, and expected that to be more apparent until very late in the process. It's no more apparent here than elsewhere. If there's hype in the bigger sets, it's for From the Sky Down, and I'll easily concede that's only my opinion and it has to do with the director narrowing reality and trying to create truths and revelations in service of a good film. Definitely not as horrid as Cameron Crowe's credibility-losing whitewash marketing job for Pearl Jam's anniversary though. For me the audio clip of One is the only thing new in the film that I'd give any positive weight to, but I realize for many the whole film is a key part of the set. In the end, don't beLIEve The Hype, do what your heart and wallet tell you, and if they tell you different things, just remember contradiction is balance "I lied, you made it true" Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
