A guitarist in the world famous rock group U2 is the latest person to criticise a councillor who made controversial comments allegedly comparing disabled children to deformed lambs who needed to be culled.

Councillor Collin Brewer, 68, is alleged to have said children with disabilities should only be allowed to live after the cost has been evaluated - much like farmers who kill the runt of the litter.

Music megastar The Edge has now apparently expressed his "shock" at the comments.

Mum Hayley Goleniowska spoke to the rocker - real name David Evans - at Downing Street this week.

Hayley's six-year-old daughter Natty has Downs' Syndrome and was a guest alongside Samantha Cameron, The Edge and Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley.

A speech was given by film-maker Kate Spicer at the fundraiser and she quoted what Brewer had said to the Disability News Service.

Mrs Goleniowska said: “The Edge was amazing and supportive of the charity and shocked at Collin Brewer.

“The whole room was aghast. An audible gasp of shock went around the room.”

Mr Brewer previously stood down from his role as Cornwall Council member for Wadebridge East after it emerged he had said disabled children “should be put down”.

The veteran member of Cornwall Council later apologised and quit the council - but then controversially won back his seat back by four votes in local elections earlier this month.

Now he is coming under increasing pressure to resign after making new comments comparing disabled children to livestock.

Brewer, an independent councillor, is alleged to have stated: “If they [farmers] have a misshapen lamb, they get rid of it. They get rid of it. Bang.

“We are just animals. You can't have lambs running around with five legs and two heads. It would be put down, smashed against the wall and be dealt with.”

OMG how on earth can someone say that. Just because someone has disabilities it doesn't mean that they cannot live a fullfilling and happy life. Incomprehensible!

Hmm, well, what can you say to that, except what a complete and utter moron. That 'animal' thing is a nonsense too. We may all be animals, yes, but the big diff is humans are highly evolved and have the power and conscience to reason etc. Bloody idiot.
