The Steps - Poem by Paul Valery
Your steps, children of my silence,Holily, slowly placed,Towards the bed of my vigilanceProceed dumb and frozen.Nobody pure, divine shade,That they are soft, your steps selected!Gods!… all the gifts which I guessCome to me on these naked feet! If, of your advanced lips,You prepare to alleviate it,An inhabitant of my thoughtsThe food of a kiss,Does not hasten this tender act,To be soft and not to be not?Because I lived to await you,And my heart was only your steps.
some of your poems are so lovely
do you have your own work
i would like to see it
Song Of The Open Road - Poem by Ogden Nash
I think that I shall never seeA billboard lovely as a treeIndeed, unless the billboards fallI'll never see a tree at all.
Reprise - Poem by Ogden Nash
Geniuses of countless nationsHave told their love for generationsTill all their memorable phrasesAre common as goldenrod or daisies.Their girls have glimmered like the moon,Or shimmered like a summer moon,Stood like a lily, fled like a fawn,Now the sunset, now the dawn,Here the princess in the towerThere the sweet forbidden flower.Darling, when I look at youEvery aged phrase is new,And there are moments when it seemsI've married one of Shakespeare's dreams.
First child.... second child by Ogden Nash
FIRSTBe it a girl, or one of the boys,It is scarlet all over its avoirdupois,It is red, it is boiled; could the obstetricianHave possibly been a lobstertrician? His degrees and credentials were hunky-dory,But how's for an infantile inventory? Here's the prodigy, here's the miracle!Whether its head is oval or spherical,You rejoice to find it has only one,Having dreaded a two-headed daughter or son; Here's the phenomenon all complete,It's got two hands, it's got two feet,Only natural, but pleasing, becauseFor months you have dreamed of flippers or claws.Furthermore, it is fully equipped:Fingers and toes with nails are tipped; It's even got eyes, and a mouth clear cut; When the mouth comes open the eyes go shut,When the eyes go shut, the breath is loosedAnd the presence of lungs can be deduced.Let the rockets flash and the cannon thunder,This child is a marvel, a matchless wonder.A staggering child, a child astounding,Dazzling, diaperless, dumbfounding,Stupendous, miraculous, unsurpassed,A child to stagger and flabbergast,Bright as a button, sharp as a thorn,And the only perfect one ever born.SECONDArrived this evening at half-past nine.Everybody is doing fine.Is it a boy, or quite the reverse? You can call in the morning and ask the nurse.
