Did anyone see the men's figure skating on the Olympics last night?  Nathan Chen was brilliant.  He got a 13.97, which has never happened.  Also, the 18 year old Japanese skater looked really good.  I was very blah about the Olympics because, quite honestly, I wish their leaders would all get sent to camps.  I got over that and am enjoying the competitions between athletes from all countries.

Also, I'd like to mention Mexico. It's the first time in 30 years that they've sent a competitor to the Winter Olympics, also in the men's skating and he did (or will do) his routine to a Santana song 🎸  I know little about skating, but a good choice of music will always get my support

I spent a lot of time of Mallorca, over the years, and always root for him too.

I was on holiday in Spain in 2019 while that year's French Open was on and it was quite special to be able to watch Rafa's matches in his home country. We often watched them in the hotel restaurant, where they showed them on a huge telly. During the semi-final(?) v Federer, one of the waiters decided there should be at least *one* person in the room supporting Fed and would very deliberately shout "Allez Roger!" every time the rest of us cheered for Rafa  :D

The final was on the same Sunday that our ferry was leaving, so we listened to part of it on the radio while driving to Santander, then once we got on the ferry, it was a mad dash to the bar area to watch it on the telly. The radio commentary was quite funny because the commentator was in raptures over *every* point that Rafa won, as if each one was the best point ever played. Clearly they don't do impartiality when it's Rafa at Roland Garros

Belgium also has a sister and brother who are on the international stage for figure skating.  I think they are Belgium's first to be competition on top.

Mild weather this week chinook conditions chance for a mid winter ride 12C/54F today. 😁

You are a die hard.  I'll walk my dog for an hour in those temps and enjoy it.  A motorcycle?  Nope.  🤔

-Nathan Chen took gold.

-Chloe Kim stole hearts and took gold

I had to stay up until 4 am to see it on repeat.  It was worth it.

I just had a great therapy session.

I forgot to say that Vilayeva was the first woman to land a quad in Olympic history.  She was also the first woman to land two.  It was the same performance.  They are saying she is the best there has ever been, in case anyone has not heard.  They're saying the same about Nathan Chen and Yuma Kagiyama is right behind him.

And now that achievement has been spoiled by knowing she failed a drugs test back in December  :(  She should be serving a suspension, but the Russian Anti-Doping Agency gave her some sort of exemption to compete - presumably because they knew how good she is.

Sadly, given Russia's history with this sort of thing, I can't say I'm surprised. Given her age (she's only 15, and legally still a child), it also raises welfare questions if she is being pressured/made to take part in doping. The drug in question is used medically to treat heart issues, and improve the function of the heart. Given her age, you wouldn't imagine she has any heart problems, in which case, they're messing around in a very sensitive part of the body solely for performance-enhancing reasons - which makes you worry about long-term effects on her health. But Russian sporting bodies apparently don't care about athlete welfare, they're just desperate to get the medals

It rather negates, the 'best ever', hey?  I was very sad to hear it.

It's been a great day. I got a lot of work done today, despite a bad migraine.  It's time to chill.   I was just singlng the song Strange Condition, by Pete Yorn, to my dog.  I was doing well and then my pitch went way south.  Without even thinking, I looked at her and said, "Now we stop, sit down and realize this is why I'm internationally unknown."
