Subscriber Koke-dera Posted September 27, 2014 Subscriber Share Posted September 27, 2014 I'm finding the reaction fascinating myself. Some people seem to be attempting to argue about it from a marketing stand point, though that seems a bit silly after the Apple deal - this is an opportunity to use whatever cover you want with lesser(?) or maybe different(?) concerns with sales numbers. Haters will use it to hate, while others, perhaps because of the forum seem to be in some sort of denial - afraid to offend the band or to re-evaluate how it impacts their fandom. The band aren't dumb. They know what perspectives will be brought up by viewers. Call them views of innocence (with the eyes of a child) or views of experience. The band may be trying to draw us to the former, which granted may be factual, but they've also given us context for the latter, and I suspect they don't want it over focused on, but they don't want it ignored either, and in that case it's a subject brought on by perspective not Larry's actual life. Really, the denialism that seems to be reflected in message board posts regarding the latter is mirroring the same problem with sexual abuse, which is sad. And this is Larry - he's thoughtful and I'm hopeful if he takes the question he won't mince words about if he's offended by any interpretation (realizing that can be done with art & an image separately to his factual self). Subscriber monica martino Posted September 27, 2014 Subscriber Share Posted September 27, 2014 Uhm, I prefer itunes cover or a full band photo on cover, not this of Larry and his son. Davide, please, put your mind at rest you can always reverse the cd in order not to look at it but i think you already had this idea
Subscriber U2LAWoman Posted September 28, 2014 Subscriber Share Posted September 28, 2014 (edited) The last U2 Album covers have created controversy. Remember How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb and the guys sitting at the bus stop or a bench and Bono looking dodgy and Edge looking like he was passed out!! Then what about the colorless, white and gray No Line On The Horizon... I loved All That You Can't Leave Behind and Achtung Baby the most. There you go, don't buy it then, or even look at it ever again? Simples.
Subscriber BigBunny Posted September 28, 2014 Subscriber Share Posted September 28, 2014 I didn't start listening to U2 till 'Achtung Baby' and there's a photo of Bono in front of a stripper in it... I think she's a stripper? well, she's not wearing a top also I remember reading that when 'Boy' was released didn't the band get upset when someone said it looked like peodophilia(sp?) ? I like the cover and I like the album. I hate the cover of NLOTH but I like the album. so really, music first, then visuals
