What’s the U2 song that captures - for you - innocence or experience ? And why?

With the Apollo Theatre contest up, I thought it might be fun and interesting if we were to share our answers.  I'm sure there are some people who would rather keep their responses private...and that's certainly understandable, but I figured I'd start a thread for those interested in sharing.

Sooooo....here goes:

For me the U2 song that most captures the themes of innocence and experience is Original Of The Species.  How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb was released just a few short months after I became a father for the first time, so this may very well be the song that resonated with me upon first listening more than any other - U2 or otherwise.

Both then, and now, Original Of The Species resonates with both innocence and experience in a number of ways.  The song itself is a message from a father, or father figure, to a baby/young child, from a place of experience imploring the child to maintain an innocence in her life.  In some ways, it is a prayer that the child maintain this innocence...and this is a prayer that I shared for my daughter back then - and that I still share for her and her younger sister today.

I also can't help to think of the ways I was going into parenthood wide-eyed back in the fall of 2004, compared to the more experienced parent I am now.  As I've found so many times in life - I had so much more to learn than I realized (I suppose that's a theme from another song from the same album though).

Simply put - Original of the Species is a song that has provided a level of wisdom that I hope I have put front and center into my parenting ever since.  I want my children, and for that matter myself, to learn from experience as we go through life, but to never stop maintaining an important level of innocence - so as to never become too hardened by the world in which we live.

So that's me!  ? . Anyone else care to share?

There have been songs that resonated with me at particular times. To this day, I will always think of those moments when I hear those songs.  Stay (Faraway so close) when my father died.  Sometimes you cant make it on your own, when my mother died.

Love is bigger gets me all the time. I have 2 growing boys. when you let them go into the world and do things with out you by their side it kind of hits you.  in one month, my 17 year old got a girlfriend, car and a job. This is going to fast.

The door is open to go through
If I could I would come, too
But the path is made by you
As you're walking start singing and stop talking

I guess its the jump from innocence to experience. you want to walk with them but have to let them do it on their own.

Too many to really name, but in terms of "Experience," I would say "The Little Things that Give you Away" is a true song of experience that continues to capture me every time I listen to it.  I went to show at the Forum on 5/15 and was hoping they would play it, closer to the album version (not the JT2017 stripped down version).  Such an honest, vulnerable, and authentic song that I think anyone who is honest about themselves can connect to.
