Dave Fanning plays three U2 tracks for listeners who are asked to pick the ‘A’ side on the band’s first single. Bono talks about his hopes for the single and playing gigs around Ireland.

When U2 were about to release their first single a poll on the ‘Dave Fanning Rocks’ offered listeners the chance to choose the ‘A’ side.

Here Dave Fanning talks to Bono about the imminent release of U2′s first single and what it will mean for the band.

Bono says the band could do an album tomorrow if the opportunity comes. On playing live Bono says that promoters in small towns insist that the bands have to do Status Quo cover versions. He knows and believes there is an audience in these towns for new music.

Ah brilliant, thanks for sharing that link and the associated  links within the 'exhibition' tab.

Remember this one - it was a Sunday night if I recall, the pubs had restricted opening hrs back then so there were even more house parties than norm for a new years eve. I was at a house party, and the radio was on in a bedroom of the house with the concert coming through loud n clear - and we were only up the road in "the north!"?

I recall standing outside a Belfast music store from about 8 pm for a midnight release of tickets for these shows, but alas sold out shortly after midnight, if they were ever even there! Whoah, changed times.

I was working evenings at the time and didn't finish work until 12.30.  I asked the boss if I could finish early to go queue for tickets and he said no.  I should have rang in sick!
