Subscriber dmway Posted January 31 Author Subscriber Share Posted January 31 (edited) This one is a bit more personal because it hits good memories of my youth. R.I.P., Cindy Williams, the “Shirley” of the classic American comedy show “Laverne & Shirley”, which was a spin-off of another beloved TV show “Happy Days” (both of which were set in Milwaukee, so @Manohlive will have to tell us which building has “Milwaukee Welcomes You” on it from the show’s opening credits). This is now the third death of the greater “Laverne & Shirley” family in the last 5 years. Gary Marshall, the show’s producer and the brother of Penny Marshall (the “Laverne” of the show), died in 2018, and David Lander, the “Squiggy” of “Lenny and Squiggy” (they were recurrent comedic characters in the show) died in 2020. May Cindy’s friends and family find solace in this difficult time. https://news.yahoo.com/laverne-shirley-actor-cindy-williams-233048244.html Edited January 31 by dmway

That would be our city hall. It's a gorgeous building, inside and out. Very sad news. We have a broze Fonz on the Riverwalk. I wonder if they'll do something for Laverne and Shirley now. I hope they do. Edited January 31 by Manohlive

Apologies for misremembering what is written on your city hall; it’s been a while since I saw the opening credits of “Laverne & Shirley”. Having said that, seeing that picture made me feel like I was watching the credits. (Speaking of the opening credits, I always wondered what happened to the rubber glove that they placed on top of one of the beer bottles… 🤔) Ron Howard just was quoted in People magazine about his memories of Cindy. https://people.com/tv/ron-howard-remembers-american-graffiti-costar-cindy-williams/ I had forgotten that they acted together in the “American Graffiti” film (which, in turn, inspired the creation of the original “Happy Days” series). So many good actors on those shows: Cindy Williams, Penny Marshall, Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Michael McKean (before he joined Spinal Tap)…yes, may they all get statues when their time comes, and let’s hope those days won’t come soon. 🙏🍀 R.I.P., Cindy. Television showed me how unique the guitar could sound if approached with a spirit of inventiveness. That insight has guided me ever since. Tom was a true legend. His music will live on.
