Future ideas for Subscriber gifts and Subscriber specials

Hi all, after speaking to fellow fans, we thought it would be a good idea to have a dedicated thread in one place to list all of our ideas for future subscriber gifts and subscriber specials. In the past the mod team have asked us what the fans would like to see, so having all our ideas in one place would be a good idea. The purpose of this thread is to provide constructive and realistic ideas and suggestions. I'll go first.

Subscribers Special - Pro Shot footage of a live song performance - once per month

Using The Joshua Tree Tour 2019 as an example we can see that U2's social media team uploads short pro shot footage clips of songs from shows onto their social media channels. These clips are normally around 30 seconds long. It has been rumoured that U2 have recorded all their shows since ZOO TV, and their pro shot clips on social media and U2.com seem to back this up. It would be great if once a month we received as a subscriber special a full length pro shot clip of a song being performed live. For example, there is a 1 minute pro shot clip of Bad being performed live in India. It would be great if we had access to the full song. It doesn't matter if its not up to DVD quality, fans would still appreciate it.

Another suggestion is to receive pro shot footage of Red Flag Day, American Soul and Love Is All We Have Left, as these were SOE songs performed on EI, but weren't on the official DVD release.

Subscribers Gift - Live ZOO TV 1992 Audio Recording / film

Next year marks 30 years since ZOO TV and fans would love to mark the occasion by receiving an audio recording or film from a 1992 indoor show. The official tour DVD from Sydney was filmed in the last leg, and because of this it didn't include Acthung Baby songs such as Ultraviolet and Wild Horses. Tryin To Throw Your Arms Around The World was cut. Releasing a show from 92 means that fans would have access to both the AB and Zooropa legs of the tour.

I think this is an awesome idea! I would love to have the Berlin show that was put out on dvd for subscribers in audio format as a gift in he future. I would also love live at red rocks released on audio format as a gift sometime.

I can only fully agree with the original post. There’s nothing worse on u2.com than getting a short clip of a song live knowing they must have filmed the full song and that we’ll likely never see the whole performance. I’d genuinely rather not see anything than a 30 second teaser. Also for next year a zoo tv show from early in the tour is a perfect idea. These shows are amongst the best in the bands history. Stockholm would be a great obvious choice. However, it doesn’t even need to be as specific as sticking to a certain show or tour I just want them to keep on making the fanclub gift a live music gift which in fairness the Apollo this year will be for the 3rd straight year. The only downside this year is it looks like it’s going to be 1 disc, a 2cd set with bonus tracks to fill it would have been better and I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t go down that route, offer the fans as much value as possible for their subscription, surely any band would want that for their fans?. Other ideas going forward though an Unforgettable fire tour show on cd and/or dvd, a Joshua Tree 2017 or 2019 show on cd and/or dvd. The Washington E&I show that was filmed, I believe they didn’t want to release this as it repeated too many songs from the I&E paris show but I would suspect subscribers are big enough fans of the band that similarities wouldn’t matter. Popmart Santiago, zoo tv Dublin, Yankee Stadium, Washington. Vertigo Dublin which was apparently filmed, the full vertigo milan show, a 360 show from later on in the tour since the Setlists changed so much throughout the tour. Plenty of options to use going forward to avoid any disappointing gifts.

Entirely agree. Fingers crossed we do get something from the ZOO TV Indoor leg from 92 this year on top of the subscribers gift  and that they don't just offer another live stream of the Sydney show or similar which has already been released.

Would love something from 1992 and here’s hoping a full recording of something from 1984 or 1985. They could release a concert from the unforgettable fire tour on vinyl and digital download. Same way they did with the concert from the marquee.

Yes a full audio of a 1992 Zoo TV would be my first choice for the next subscriber gift, but please continue the live format releases, preferably audio format, CD, downloads, I will always  renew my subscription for live audio

I dont have a problem with the content as such, the issue i have, personally is the format.

CDs? It's 2021. think it should be on Vinyl. I'd be happy to pay say $70 per year, instead of $40, to make sure it's vinyl.

The 2015 gift was on vinyl. 2017 was on vinyl. 2021 is on CD...

Obviously unreleased music is high on the list.  I’ve enjoyed the live sets and the vinyl special editions too.  But I think the books and memorabilia would be good at this point. Maybe a package of a book, with pins, guitar picks, drum sticks and other interesting tidbits would be really cool.
