Edge and Me - Chicago 1997
This was a fun photo.
After the POPMart show in Chicago on a very pleasant June evening (as I was finally finishing up my graduate work), I had learned (from fellow U2 fans) where U2 was staying in Chicago.
I decided to go and "hang", not sure what would happen.
Much to my happiness, U2 showed up! First, however, the fans waiting were treated ever so briefly to Tina Turner. She was performing in town and just happened to be at the same hotel! We all waved and screamed her name (she is a legend!). Before U2 arrived, Tina's bodyguard came down with pizza! He said it was from Ms. Turner! So several of us had a slice of Tina Turner pizza!
When U2 arrived (or their limos), most went straight into the hotel. Edge came out. We were great fans. We stood politely and considerately in a nice single file for him. No pushing or shoving. Edge came by and autographed items and took pictures. We always asked to take photos and then thanked him profusely. I was very proud of being a U2 fan that night - no wild scenes or obnoxious fans.
I only had a disposable camera and feared the picture wouldn't come out. I quickly developed it the next day. Much to my delight, the picture was great. I am a tall man (6'2") and had to stoop a bit to be in the photo with the Edge. :-) I complimented him on his performance, with him replying that they (U2) always seem to play well in Chicago.
Edge also signed the "POP" CD insert - actually, the inside section with his face. He drew glasses around his eyes - don't ask me why. To this day, that CD insert and the photo are framed, hanging on my wall. It is a good memory.
