  2. There’s a record store in England that I buy music from sometimes (Burning Shed), and they have a habit of putting little promotional items along with the items they ship - this is what they sent in my most recent order: I never expected to receive a card with Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, David Bowie, King Crimson, and Steven Wilson (the founder of Burning Shed - also a musician/remixer extraordinaire and formerly of the excellent band Porcupine Tree) all in masks - now that's topical. 👍

  6. I don't want to give attention to the racist morons who've been sending horrible words to our players. But I would like to highlight how the community in Manchester have responded to the defacing of a mural of Marcus Rashford. Not only was the abusive graffiti covered up as soon as it was found, but through the day, local people have been covering the covering fabric with hearts, England flags and supportive messages for Rashford and his team-mates. Which says a lot. Whoever put the graffiti there snuck along in the dark, but in the day-time, lots of people have been showing that they wil

  7. What a tournament it’s been 🤯 Congratulations to Italy and commiserations England. And England you should be proud of your team what an amazing performance to reach the final ! What a time we live in too, when we can marvel at Ronaldo, Modric, Kane, Mbappé and Chiesa all playing at the same tournament. And I haven’t even mentioned amazing players in the Copa America ! Lets all meet again next year for the World Cup in Qatar for the beautiful game..

  13. I bought the Inhaler album at lunchtime More importantly, I stopped a small child from potentially getting run over As I got off the bus in the town centre, there was a lady waiting to cross the road with a 3-4 year old child. The road is a busy one, and there's a pathway in the middle so you only have to cross one lane at a time. I crossed to the middle, with the lady and her daughter (or possibly granddaughter) behind me. I stopped, but the little girl didn't. She kept on walking, and I had to put my arm out to stop her from walking into the road. I pointed out to her that there

  15. I'm glad to read that people here are proud of the players on England's squad - that's the reaction that they deserve. (And certainly better than the pre-game storming of the stadium: https://global.espn.com/football/uefa-european-championship/story/4430638/euro-2020-final-fans-try-to-storm-wembley-before-italy-vs-england ) England has come so far since 2016 (doesn't the game with Iceland seem like another lifetime ago?) - they finished 4th in the last World Cup, they finished 3rd in the most recent UEFA Nations League, and now they have finished runners-up in the next most difficul

  23. Was really hoping England could cheer me up this evening after Roger sadly lost at Wimbledon. However, I didn't have any expectations whatsoever about which team would win, and it didn't become any clearer as the match went on. The last 15 minutes were *agonising*. I was absolutely convinced Denmark were going to equalise and we were going to lose on penalties. My first experience of watching football was Euro '96 and that fateful semifinal is forever burnt into my brain - watching excitedly in my bedroom as we were just about to reach the final we'd been promised, when it suddenly went h

  24. …and congratulations to England! That was a spectacular game! It’s always a bit of a shame when a penalty decision factors into the winning margin. It was one of those decisions where someone was going to be happy and someone was going to feel aggrieved. If the referee had not called a penalty in that situation, VAR wouldn’t have overturned that decision either. Great save on Kane’s penalty kick by Schmeichel - he was one of Denmark’s best players today and in the whole tournament. I know that Leicester City in the Premier League are happy to have him as a keeper. All credit to Kane

  26. …and Italy get to the Final with the help of a Brazilian (Jorginho)! Poor Morata - people wanting to berate him for his underwhelming penalty attempt will have to remember that there would have been no extra time without his game-tying goal after coming in as a sub in the 2nd half. Still, think how far Italy has come. They failed to qualify for the last World Cup in 2018. After that, they have done nothing but win. Very impressive! It should a very good final between Italy and the survivor of England/Denmark. By the way, is there a 3rd-place game this time around? I have se

  29. If anyone thinks they will be going through soccer/football withdrawal after this coming weekend, you don't need to! There are 3 more tournaments to watch before the Premier League starts up again: 1) the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2) the Olympics 3) the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals (and final) I just created a thread for all three events to be commented on: https://zootopia.u2.com/forums/topic/42361-concacaf-gold-cup-and-more/ But, until then, first things first! Good luck to Spain, Italy, England, and Denmark in the Euros - and to Brazil, Peru, Arge

He was the last major artist I saw before lockdown (at the Brighton Dome) and now he's the first one I'm seeing after lockdown! Also spontaneously found myself seeing Jamie Lenman play an acoustic show at Chalk in Brighton last weekend. Great show! Currently lined up in the near future I have Elbow at the Brighton Centre, Biffy Clyro at the Kentish Town Forum in London, Rolo Tomassi at Chalk, Kid Kapichi at Patterns in Brighton, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes at Brixton Academy, Goji

  35. Today's (technically, yesterday's) games in Group C have finished - they were very entertaining! Guadeloupe 1-2 Jamaica Suriname 1-2 Costa Rica The group now looks like this: Group C Costa Rica (6 pts./+3 GD) Jamaica (6 pts./+3 GD) Guadeloupe (0 pts./-3 GD) Suriname (0 pts./-3 GD) Like Group B yesterday, the top 2 teams (Costa Rica and Jamaica) have now qualified for the quarterfinals; the bottom two teams have been eliminated from play beyond the last group stage game. These games actually had a lot of drama. In each game, the team wh

  36. Let the 2nd games in each group begin! Tonight was the Group A's turn. The results: Trinidad & Tobago 0-2 El Salvador Guatemala 0-3 Mexico So, that now makes the group look like this: Group A El Salvador (6 pts./+4 GD) Mexico (4 pts./+3 GD) Trinidad & Tobago (1 pt./-2 GD) Guatemala (0 pts./-5 GD) So, we have learned a few things from tonight's games: El Salvador has now clinched a quarterfinal berth, and Guatemala has been eliminated from play beyond the group stage. Mexico played much better tonight, most of all in terms of ac

  39. England and penalties just don't go together Gareth Southgate has been through it himself and knows exactly how Saka (and Rashford and Sancho) will be feeling, so hopefully he'll be able to help them cope with it. Credit to Italy, they had a great tournament overall and are worthy winners. Although I was *not* happy with Chiellini's foul on Saka - that could have been a red card. But overall, they were the better team. Although England can be confident looking forward to the World Cup next year. We've done well, had a good run and hopefully that bodes well for the future.

  43. I certainly understand preferring the games with fans - it is better with fans. However, the fans would have no reason to be in the stadiums in the first place if it weren't for the teams playing on the pitch. So, I have been enjoying concentrating just on the play itself, and it has been worth it! In fact, and I have been noticing this in all sports over the past year, one fringe benefit of not having full stadiums is being able to hear the chatter/banter on the field. This is normally not heard when the games are shown on TV. It is quite cool to hear the on-field strategizing by the coa

  44. One of the best days of tennis that there is in any year! 👍 A bit of a shame that today was the last time that the entire Round of 16 is played (or supposed to be played - thank you, rain 🙄) on the second Monday. Starting next year and beyond, they are playing half of the Round of 16 on the middle Sunday. Oh, well... Congrats to Roger Federer getting to the quarterfinals yet again - only 39 years young.
