  1. Below is a review of the finest Album that U2 didn't make! There are several reasons the U2 and Brian Eno side project - Passengers: Original Soundtracks 1 - is worth picking up. The number one reason isLuciano Pavarotti's contribution to "Miss Sarajevo." The song is one of the best U2 has ever put to tape. Gorgeous. But when the maestro openshis voice it becomes otherworldly. He sings: Dici che il fiume Trova la via al mare E come il fiume Giungerai a me Oltre i confini E le terre assetate Dici che come il fiume Come il fiume... L'amore giungerà L'amore... E non so più pregar
  2. I was playing badminton with my then girlfriend (now wife) when the attacks happened and didn't know about them until about an hour later when I waslistening to radio 1 (uk) in my car whilst waiting outside some shops. I thought that it was a bit odd that the radio station were playing song after song withno DJ interrupting. It was even odder because Chris Moyles was at that time occupying the afternoon slot on the station and he is not exactly noted for being aquiet individual. Eventually he came on air to say that due to the events that are unfolding in New York at the present time and out o
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CoZ8cbTRjI A taster of the material U2 heve held back for Songs of Ascent (and European leg walk on music). By the sounds of it they are going to continue to get awayfrom the safe sound, fantastic!
  4. It is certainly one of my favourite albums but I can sort of see why it got slated. I think the album tracklisting is atrocious, it starts with high tempo andthen just takes you into a dark place. I have stated here before (many years ago) that this was the first album that U2 approached as a CD and not a LP. Thisis where I think they lost their momentum. If it were an LP then side a would have grooves the size of pig troughs while side B would be untouched. It justdidn't flow the way it should have. I still think that the album was a step in the right direction and was dissapointed when the
  5. Anybody got any more news on the new album? It's not that I am craving new tunes already, I think NLOTH is the best thing they've released this decade! It's just that if they release a new album they will hopefully bring the tour back to the UK and I can have one of the greatest live experiences of my lifeagain. Here's hoping.
  6. It's one of my favourite albums and one that rewards you the more you listen to it. It was the last time that U2 went forward as musicians and showed ballsuntil NLOTH. A few things went against the band and the album, most notably running out of studio time due to booking the tour too soon. But you know what, I think therecord has a rougher edge because of it and this is not a bad thing. Another thing that went against U2 was the fact that bands that had been fusing rock and dance for some time had monster records out in 1997 (Prodigy's fatof the Land is one example). U2 were beaten to the t

Hello to all my old mates by the way! i'm back! Smack my bitch up - Prodigy
  10. There have been some really good points made on this subject which have enlightened me to the depth of the current situation, I'm not going to add alotmore value to this discussion only to say that the publicity surrounding the album, singles and upcoming tour is non-existant at the moment which should be areal concern for the record company in the current econimic climate. I have also got to confess that I have laid off the album for the best part of a month and, although I think it's their most interesting collection ofsongs for a long time there really isn't that much innovation on the alb
  11. Unos wrote: Lebabon is not a single release, thats clearly an album track. As for Magnificent being one of the 2 worse songs I'm afraid I'll agree to disagree. Unos, I'm afraid you are agreeing with me ha ha. I am saying that the only other option that is worse than picking Boots and Magnificent to promote thealbum would be Lebanon. Also I never said that Magnificent is one of the worst songs, it is just a bad choice to gather interest in the album after the damage Boots has done. I'll go on record and say that I do not think Boots is a bad song either, it just did not sit well on the
  12. After topping the Album chart for a couple of weeks the album has very rarely bothered the top 10. Overall album sales have been comparatively poor. The lead single failed to top the charts (first time this has happened since 1987) Second single has failed to make the top 40 (worst chart position since 1982) So why the disinterest in the band when in my opinion they have released their best album since POP! There was a huge publicity campaign in the UK upon the albums release but the publicity has not been sustained is this a reason. Is it because the two singles that have been rel
  13. Crewboy wrote: Part of the reason why there are not any physical CD single releases here is simply due to the fact that singles do not sell in the USA. Well the single got to Number 42 in the UK charts this week so they are not exactly flying off the shelves here. My opinion is that they have chosen the 2 worst possible songs to promote the album, they can only top this by releasing Lebanon next.
  14. My new favourite band are supporting my old favourite band, itdoesn't get much better for me! Sheffield here we come. Here are Elbow performing Running to stand still for the new war child album.
