Back from the show.
First thoughts...
OneRepublic. Surprisingly good opener. I knew very little about them but they won me over. They probably fared better than Lumineers. Maybe Mumford too. A better fit.
Red Zone. First time in. I liked it and had a great view, but not sure it was worth the extra money. At least it was for a good cause.
Setlist. We had Bad, not ASOH. But im fine with that. I love ASOH but wasn't loving the version they've been doing at other shows. Bad works better.
Ending with Vertigo? I assumed they would come back and do I Will Follow or Little Things, so this was an anticlimatic finish for me, but whatever.
Also, Edge's guitar troubles during Pride seemed to affect his mood for the remainder of the show. He seemed visibly angry. (Also had some trouble with the keyboard at the start of RTSS.)
But enough of my nitpicking, everything else was wonderful.

Hard Rock tribute show is free.
The U2 3D movie is like $13.

Currently, the overall day has a high chance of rain, but if you look at the hourly details, around 8-11pm, the chance of rain drops to 20%... so we'll see...
Still lots of time... can't go by forecast yet.
-
For an arena show, I'm perfectly fine with reserved seats in the lower level, near the stage...
But for a stadium show... even the closest seats seem too far removed from the band, and I feel no connection. (But I also just don't have it in me to wait in line for 12 hours anymore.... so I split the difference and am doing Red Zone ga this tour.)
-
You can't really trust the weather forecast this early out, especially in South Florida....
The forecast will change and change back again, and then again...
The show is rain or shine... I'd prefer an indoor show, but I'll be happy no matter what.
-
I'll bet Atlanta and New Orleans still get announced, in a separate later announcement... just not today.
-
According to atu2, there's 9 new US dates plus some South American dates:
September 3 - Detroit at Ford Field
September 5 - Buffalo at New Era Field
September 8 - Minneapolis at US Bank Stadium
September 10 - Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium
September 12 - Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium
September 14 - New Orleans at Mercedes Benz Superdome
September 16 - St. Louis at Dome at America's Center
September 18 - Atlanta at Georgia State Stadium
September 22 - San Diego at Qualcomm StadiumOctober 3 & 4 - Mexico City at TBD (either Foro Sol or Azteca)
October 7 - Bogota, Colombia at Estadio El Campin
October 10 & 11 - Buenos Aires, Argentina at La Plata
October 14 - Santiago, Chile at Estadio Nacional
October 19, 21 & 22 - Sao Paulo, Brazil at Morumbi Stadium* still unofficial at this time, but I'd put money on this list being 100% accurate.

For this tour, they are doing the drawing beforehand and contacting the winners the day before the show... supposedly.

Does anyone have a video for Bullet the Blue Sky from last night?
Just did a quick Youtube search.

I haven't gone to a show yet... mine's next week. But i've seen some pics of the merch stands from the first few shows, and indeed they had venue specific shirts just for that particular city.
(i still have my Miami 1992 Zoo TV shirt.)

Lucked out..we can see whole stage unobstructed but people behind us not so lucky
Any chance you can post a picture of your view and maybe go back a couple rows and take a picture of THAT view too?
Might be helpful to those with tickets to the 2nd show.
thanks!

No, you're the first person to have this issue.
-
In the summer of 1998, I attended the Tibetan Freedom Concert at RFK Stadium in Washington DC.... during the first day of the 2-day event, lightning struck directly in the middle of the stadium, injuring several fans. (a total miracle no one died.)
That crash was the loudest sound I ever heard. If there truly is the threat of lightning, the show should be postponed.

If the thundercloud passes rain, so let it rain.

This doesn't make sense - the CC-entry restricted tickets were supposed to require an ID check at the gate. Having the credit card wasn't supposed to be enough - the credit card had to be in your name, and you had to have a matching photo ID. Anyone not possessing both the credit card and the matching photo ID is supposed to be turned away at the gate.
What's the point of having CC entry if the venue refuses to enforce the rules? The entire system is worthless if they allow you to submit a credit card without checking ID.
I agree that it's basically worthless if its not going to be enforced.
I guess the theory was that the mere THREAT of id-check was supposed to be enough to deter scalpers from attempting the gift card trick.
But this is NOT the first tour to utilize credit card entry. There have been numerous other artists using the CC-entry system for the last 10 years or so, and in that time, scalpers already learned the drill. (I think it was Tom Waits, of all people, who had the first tour to experiment with this system.)
(And while the scalping of U2 CC-entry tickets didn't disappear completely, perhaps it did make a small dent into the number of aftermarket tickets floating around.)
-
First and foremost, I go to see the BAND. The backdrop, to me, is always secondary.
-
Yuck... I wouldn't give Gene Simmons 20 cents.
-
The scalpers circumvented the whole CC-entry restriction by buying up pre-paid Visa/Amex gift cards, and then placing the ticket orders on them, and then just shipping the gift cards to their buyers. So the buyers go to the venue with the gift cards, and the usher at the gate scans it like a regular credit card, and they're in!
(Buying CC-entry tickets on gift cards is not supposed to be allowed, but it doesn't really get enforced.)
But anyway... The next time there's a CC-entry tour, be it U2 or any other artist, I will buy my tickets via the same method as the scalpers, on a gift card. So that way, if something legitimately comes up, I won't be truly stuck and can try to get my money back... Lesson learned!
-
I know one of the Red Zone perks is supposed to be entry into the drawing for a backstage tour...
Have we had any winners yet? I haven't seen anyone mention it...
Just curious what that was like...

I got an email from the Hard Rock Stadium/Miami Dolphins list today....
They are having a sale for the "72 Club" lower level seats. Here's the link, if anyone's interested:
https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/dolphins/EN/buy/details/hr170611
They are great seats, and come with amenities (and pretty close to the B-stage).
But they are crazy expensive ($1,100 ea)... But if you've got the money, go for it.
(These are "official" tickets from the Ticketmaster/Miami Dolphins portal.... not some scalper site.)
Just thought I'd throw it out there.
