BORING ITS COLDPLAY PRETENDING TO BE U2 ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO.

Until coldplay realised being like U2 wasn't really interesting anymore to 'the kids'

The sooner the better U2 realise we're fans growing old with them and they cut their musical cloth accordingly instead of the being 'relevant' bollocks the better.

    This isn't a U2 song. This isn't for U2's audience.

  2. I've never seen the film as I was far to young when it came out. I would love a chance to see it (or even it own it) in 3D, but would happily take a 2D release as well. I guess it depends on whoever on the rights to the film though.

  3. I would also love for them to release the American EI show to @Manohlive. It was canned because the band thought it was too similar to the Paris release from 2015. Even with the same innocence section that they repeated, the early EI shows were still considerably different compared to iE. It would make a great subscribers special (not annual gift!) if they released it digitally to U2.com subscribers. If they don't want to release the full show there's no reason not to release pro shot footage of American Soul and Love is All we have left from that concert.

I think there is a good chance they will do that further down the road.  One thing I have wondered:  People stream these days.  How many actually go out and buy DVD/BluRays?   I don't know.  It's been years since I bought one.  I'd buy something by U2 and a couple other bands,  but nothing else.  I don't want the space taken up and the discs become antiquated with the next technology.  At what point does it no longer become viable for U2, and other bands, to release things when the vast majority don't have to buy it to see it?  Again, I don't know.  If I was an artist, I would not be in any hurry to release a DVD of BluRay when everyone's just watching it on YouTube anyhow.  I'm wondering how much the fact that artist's no longer get paid for their music is affecting how they release things.  It's got to be very disheartening.  It'd be like not getting paid on Friday after working all week.  We'll see what they do.  Music, at least in my country, is no longer something you go out and purchase.  It's something people find on the computer for free.  It's not right but it is what it is.  How many people would actually go out and buy EI on BluRay?  I would not.  I have it on DVD, which is fine for me.   I'm not sure there's a huge market any longer but I could be wrong.

You're definitely right that the popularity of DVDs and BDs has decreased. Especially with BD. When Coldplay released their live film in 2018 they only released it on DVD and released the HD digital version on iTunes. There is still definitely a market for physical media such as DVDs and BD's, and I think if they had released Berlin on BD / 4K it would have been profitable, it's just not as big as it once was.

I think I would buy it... If they did something nice with it. I love a good boxset tbh because there's always a ton of great stuff inside... It's like a forever Christmas present - because I tend to forget about what's in there after a while 😅

I would die for a I+E/E+I one seriously... I'm sure they'd come up with great goodies on the theme of Innocence to Experience.

I am an absolute stream addict but I tend to buy stuff I really like without hesitation. If I'm not mistaken there was a download link for I+E too? That's the best. Having the physical stuff AND the dematerialized version. it's just a lot more convenient to watch on that format.

So yeah... I say nice boxsets and download links would be perfect! I don't know if there's still a huge market for that, but there are still fans willing to give them all their money 😂

I love the idea of having an ultimate "iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE" boxset. This is what I would include in it. I have to tried to keep it somewhat realistic and this product would be for people who are either completely new to U2 or who are discovering the "Songs of" era for the first time. This boxset should act as the ultimate one stop place for everything to do with that era. I know the live CDs of I+E was subscribers gifts but for the sake of this boxset I'll include them, and they've been aired on U2 X Radio too so not exactly exclusive. My idea:

    iNNOCENCE:

    • 1 x CD containing U2's 2014 studio album Songs of Innocence.
    • 1 x CD containing U2's Live Songs of Innocence.
    • 1 x Double CD containing an Audio Rip of U2's iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris 2015.
    • 1 x MP3 digital download of U2's 2014 studio album Songs of Innocence.
    • 1 x MP3 digital download of U2's Live Songs of Innocence.
    • 1 x MP3 digital download of U2's iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris 2015.
    • 1 x Poster of U2's Song of Innocence.
    • 1 x Book documenting the Apple release, the creative process behind the album featuring quotes from the band members, and an overview of the bands 2015 "iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour". Featuring exclusive photographs and full setlists for each show.
    • 1 x Exclusive Steelbook case.
    • 1 x 4K UHD Blu Ray copy of U2's iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris 2015.
    • 1 x Blu Ray copy of U2's iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE: Live in Paris 2015.

It wouldn't surprise me if they started releasing the shows that were upgraded and released for 48 hours.  It doesn't make sense they would go to that expense only to release it for 2 days. It wouldn't surprise me if they did something for EI but not for a while because it was last year's gift and an exclusive.

When they announced that EI would be the subscribers gift I was still fully expecting it to get a commercial release to. I thought they would keep the DVD + Booklet as the subscribers gift, and then release a BD without the booklet to the general public. That way it wouldn't be the same as the "exclusive" gift for subscribers.

Use of modern technology doesn't mean better technology. Unfortunately many people don't care about quality and collecting things. So streaming is easy and lazy money grabbing. But...there's still a market for Cd's/blurays etc. for fans. It takes some effort to do so. Universal is not the best recordcompany for fans, it's a moneyfactory that doesn't care and sadly we can do nothing about it.

I'm struggling to find an instance where the use of modern technology doesn't equal better technology. The reason why technology has advanced is because their most recent iterations is better than their previous counterparts. 4K BD > BD > DVD > VHS. I do agree though that unfortunately many people don't care about the quality of things. The Facebook posts in the fans groups show this. Many people watch their DVDs in their Kitchen or their bedrooms with built in DVD players on their old TVs. They wouldn't be able to do this with Blu Ray. I wonder if U2's target audience being the older generation also has an impact on the way they release things. It just sucks for those of us in the younger generation who has mostly grown up with HD or 4K content.

It's not necessarily even a case of people not caring about quality and collecting things, it's just that no-one can afford it these days because the ratrace has left everyone so poor. When I was a kid I had enough pocket money to quite happily stroll into HMV and get a CD or DVD at a bargain price. Now I'm an adult working 30-40 hours a week getting paid minimum wage, and almost all of those paychecks go on rent, bills, council tax, food, etc.

For the financial straits that a lot of people (particularly young people) are in these days, streaming services are just easier find the budget space for.

I don't agree with this. First of all, the price of BD's are fairly cheap. Wonder Woman 84 (quite a new blockbuster movie) is £15 on BD. Yes you'll have to pay more for the 4K BD version but even that is only a £10 increase. I think those of us that are complaining about Berlin not being released physically in a higher definition format would have no problem with paying those prices. Secondly, it's not like the Berlin film is on streaming services. In fact, the streaming services turned down the option to purchase the film and only some TV channels picked up half an edit of the film because it was cheaper.

Finally, U2 could quite easily solve this problem by keeping the 4K stream available forever on your U2.com profile (as long as you subscribed for the 2020 gift) but for some reason they haven't. They will actively revoke your access to that stream after your 2020 subscription has expired (even if you've renewed for 2021). It's ridiculous and makes no logical sense to do so.

P.S. This isn't a rant to any of the posters. I like having these conversations with other fans. It lets me hear other peoples opinions.

And the E&I concert was shot in 4K too, but was only released on dvd...🤔🙄  Waited on a commercial 4K-blu ray release but......of course...no..

Yep. I have made my views on EI Berlin being shot in 4K but only released on DVD very clear. The fact they aren't going to commercially sell a physical copy in 4K or offer a 4K digital download to purchase is farcical.

Here we go with formatting...    😶      (I'm just joking around-please don't take this too seriously)  They could erect statues of each Zootopian in solid platinum and some of us would think they used the wrong photo-we wanted the other one that captured our good side.  (myself included)

It always comes back to formatting...     Lol

Believe it or not, many of us live in the modern day and use modern day technology ;). But also, wouldn't we provide the photo they use for our statues?

  8. As apart of the Virtual Road series, a Slane Castle EP has been released to digital store fronts (Spotify etc). This EP includes 4 tracks - Beautiful Day, Stuck in a moment, All I want Is You and Where The Streets Have No Name.
