I would like to apologize to all U2 fans at the June 16 Louisville show

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am the fan who became violently ill and was taken by ambulance minutes before U2 came out, delaying the show by a few minutes. I want to apologize to the fans around me who had to witness it and anyone that was affected by my selfishness. I am not making excuses but please let me explain and perhaps you will understand. I had a chemo treatment on Wed June 14. On the day of the show, Friday the 16th I was in bad shape. Looking back I had no business going. I was so dizzy I had to use crutches to get to the car Friday morning. I live in Indianapolis which is about a 90 min drive. By the time I arrived at Papa Johns Stadium with my daughter, it was to be her first time seeing the band, I felt ok and thought I could do this. At 2 oclock got in line for General admission, ,my daughter  and I were wrist band 203 and 204 respectively. After only 2 hours I  became violently ill and should have given up and went home then. When we walked into the stadium and I saw the glare from the flooring a little voice told me uh oh. I ignored that voice and made it right up until minutes before showtime. Then the floodgates opened, I was vomiting violently and could not walk. Security lifted me over the rail and then I was transported immediately to the hospital. I was severely dehydrated and my kidneys shut down. I am home from the hospital now and I just feel so bad for being a downer to the fans around me and for delaying the band.

Now for the excuses. The media tends to glamorize those of us with terminal illnesses. We are told how brave we are etc. I was not being heroic Friday, I was being selfish. I have loved U2 since October came out. They have shaped how I view the world. I thought this would be the last time I would ever see them live, I bought tickets before the Indy show was announced. I had no business spending hours in the sun with a heat index a Doctor told me was 111. Words can not express how sorry I am to the fans around me, to the band for making them wait. I am also so grateful to the woman behind me for notifying security and for security for their quick action, you guys saved my life. If you are reading this and know anyone who was at the show please tell them how sorry the guy who got sick right before the show is. My heart was in the right place even if my head wasn't. God willing I will catch the band in September. It will be cooler and the stadium is indoors. I promise however if I am to ill to attend I wont. I will never again be a downer to the greatest fans of any band nor will I inconvenience the greatest band in the history of rock and roll. Love and Peace to all of you.

I am so happy to hear that you are home and feeling better!  I was at the show and assure you that all of us nearby who witnessed the incident were only concerned for your well-being.  Didn't think I would ever know the outcome, so truly appreciate your post. Love and Peace right back at you!

Wow - absolutely no reason to apologize.  Glad you are OK!

I remember two instances of EMS people coming, once through the GA line while we were lining up and once more in the field right before the show.  I'm assuming the second was for you?

Either way - absolutely no reason to apologize.  It was a tough day even if you weren't going through a physical challenge - we were on our feet for about 8 hours total, at least half of it in the sun.  It would have been tough on anyone!!

Hopeful you'll be able to catch up with them when they come back around!!
