Dealing with Valentine's Day gack!!

This morning I was at a local grocery store and to my horror I saw an entire section dedicated to Valentine's Day with cards, flowers, candy etc.

Don't get me wrong, I usually have plans on February 14th which includes me wearing black, eating a pint of ice cream and watching horror films all day LOL.

My question is who else dreads Valentine's Day and how do you get through the Hallmark merchandise-influenced holiday?

I know! Valentines crap during Christmas, Christmas crap during Halloween, seriously it really does make me sick. I've come to the point (and I'm not even old! lol) where I'm just not going to do any holiday celebrating (or purchasing is what it is all about these days! And it is all gaudy, tacky junk, uck!). I do my own thing and have a few traditions, but the commercial crap is ridiculous. Ok, enough of my ranting ;) I totally agree with you!

It's not as bad here, I think.... But when the day comes, I just ignore it and don't participate in the lovey-dovey stuff... sick.gif

Like your idea of horrorfest on Valentines!! Good plan. I think it is just so over-rated. Commercialisation has taken the magic out of what should be a lovely day. This year will be the 9th year together for valentines with my husband. We don't get each other cards - because they are supposed to be off an anonomous admirer - and I know him pretty well!! We purposely don't go out etc... as it is all just so contrived. I would class myself as pretty romantic (most of the time) and an affectionate person etc... but I don't like being told that I have to do this just because of what date it is.

Oddly enough, I don't dread this holiday and I'm not a huge fan of it either. I just don't really pay much attention to it. I've learned to appreciate being single and I guess by doing that, somewhere along the way I've learned not to hate Valentines Day.

I think it's cute to see men in the stores trying their best to pick out a Valentines day gift for their girlfriend or wife, staring at the stuff cluelessly...it's cute and makes me giggle. lol Although it use to be a horror-fest day for me too. Drama and action movies work well also. Better yet, invite some single friends out and go do something fun. ;)

lol, I'm laughing at my post, I had just gotten back from doing errands and saw Valentine's junk everywhere... hence the rant.

I don't dread the holidays, just don't like the commercial bombardment. I have always ignored it but it just recently started to irritate me... they are putting out stuff earlier and earlier.
