Rumor: New Songs for U2 360 DVD Buyers

@U2,March 27, 2010

By: Matt McGee

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but there's a juicy rumor that's been posted in the U2eastlink.com forums today, and it goes something like this:

  • The U2 360 Rose Bowl DVD will include a code that lets DVD owners download new songs from U2.com.
  • The new songs will be in "various formats" -- i.e., audio and video.
  • U2 will do some kind of live promo to promote the new songs.
  • All of this will be announced on Monday.

When asked by another fan what the source of this rumor is, the original poster says "Universal Spain." We should note that U2tour.de also reported over this weekend that the DVD will be announced on Monday, and that it will be called U2 360 at the Rose Bowl.

Just saw that e-mail in my inbox. That would be great to get some new songs! Now hopefully the release date for the DVD is before I see them in Salt Lake City. I would love to have some new stuff to listen to in preparation for the show. I was at the Rose Bowl show, and I downloaded the youtube version. So I have my memories and video of the actual show. I'd love to see how the DVD differs from the youtube version. Besides, one can never have enough U2! roll.gifroll.gifroll.gif

Hmmm, not everyone will buy the Rosebowl DVD - I know I certainly won't, it didn't come across very well at all on YouTube.

I suspect the new songs will make it onto some other CD down the track (especially if they're going to play these new songs on the tour this year). If they don't, then oh well - I'm sure they'll end up on YouTube sooner or later anyway.

The DVD will be way better than the original broadcast, as they'll have done a proper mix of the audio and vision

I remember the Zoo TV Sydney broadcast had quite a few different shots than the VHS version.

That ad for the DVD did say something about "an exclusive format" didn't it?

Maybe they'll put the new songs with the DVD as a package to encourage more people to buy it, and not just download the new songs illegaly.

Can't wait to find out!

U2.com listed 11 highlights (I post them in order of when the band played them):

1. Breathe
2. Get On Your Boots
3. Beautiful Day
4. No Line On The Horizon
5. Unknown Caller
6. The Unforgettable Fire
7. City of Blinding Lights
8. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
9. Sunday Bloody Sunday
10. Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
11. Moment of Surrender

I hope this is not the final track listing! In fact I hope they do what they did with the PopMart DVD and include the entire tracklisting.

It could be disc 1.

BONUS VIDEO

There's almost always a single and 2 disc version, and for years the 2disc was well worth it. If the 2nd disc is the little audience movies and tour journal (Cow Man from Foxboro, Claw Hat woman from where ever, MYPD wescort to Fordham) I will mope. If the 2nd disc is the songs that were played in other cities (see U2gigs) or ????  I welcome it :

a) Spiderman

B) recording Songs of Ascent

c) RnR Hall of Fame

d) Easter eggs???

AUDIO

I predict downloadable mp3 or low fi versions of Songs of Ascent a la Nine Inch Nails or Radiohead did to get fans familiar with new songs prior to hi-fidelity relea$e. THey could do an EP that fitsin 3rd slot of deluxe slipcase a la Best of 1990-2000 History Mix DVD, also. Pop Mart did have best bonus disc.
