30 male singers? Why only male?

I'm not sure I want to figure out 30 but my favourite male singers from bands are:

Freddie Mercury

Michael Hutchence

Neil Finn

Bernard Fanning

Thom Yorke

Jay Kay (Jamiroquai)

As for females - the few that immediately come to mind are:

Aretha Franklin

Amy Lee (Evanescence)

Marie Fredrickson (Roxette)

Annie Lennox

Freddie Mercury is the best front man of all time no question. Jaymz 'PapaHet' Hetfield \m/

James La Brie has an amazing voice. James Dean Bradfield (The Manics) Michael Stipe.

and i know he shared the vocals in Pink Floyd but i've always loved David Gilmour's voice

Agree with Chester's inclusion in that list, but I think it's more of a Chester/Mike Shinoda double act (in Linkin Park on its own that is, as they both have separate side projects), as they both provide lead vocals. Feel free to disagree with me. But I'd replace Axl Rose with the kind of double-act between Charlie Simpson and Alex Westaway of Fightstar. Ever heard of them? I suppose it's a yes, as I've been kind of raving about them in the non-U2 sections for the last few weeks. tongue.gif

As far as women go, they had to be a singer in a band. Most are solo acts. So yeah, Aretha Franklin automatically out of this list. Otherwise, she would be my top female singer.

Some notable female singers in a band:

(In no particular order)

Annie Lennox (Eurythmics)

Suzanna Hoffs (The Bangles)

Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf)

Fergie (Black Eyed Peas)

Diana Ross (The Supremes)

Marie Fredriksson (Roxette)

Gwen Stefani (No Doubt)

Come to think of it, some of the singers, listed above, should be in my Top 30.

He can sing like a choir boy, then transform his voice into Cookie Monster. Have worked with them several times, and have heard him sing backstage. He also has his side project, Dead By Sunrise, which also displays his great voice. Actually, another one who comes to mind, on this, is Jared Leto.

when i saw phil collins on that list i instantly laughed at the whole thing.

what determines THE best singer?

oh and there are no women?

Hahaha....at first, I never thought of Phil Collins as one of those great singers. However, I've been noticing a lot of FOH engineers playing "No Son of Mine" to tune their P.A. I've also used that track on several occasions to tune my P.A. (Nexo Geo T). I guess his voice has just grown on me. It cuts right through. As far as the criteria goes, for this poll, they had to be in a band at some point in their professional career....and that's why Aretha isn't on my list. That was the only criteria listed....and just looking at the list, it seemed like it was mostly for rock. I'll post the list. For me, I determined it by their range, their stage presence, their live singing performance.
