Subscriber maggie18patchwork Posted March 5, 2011 Subscriber Share Posted March 5, 2011 I read this article Janette - made me laugh a bit! I understand about them being the biggest band in the world - deservedly!!!! But people know that Glastonbury is stripping it back and it is the music which makes the set! I wonder if they wanted to bring some big screens lol!!!As much as I love the claw and hoping that I will be standing under it again one day soon! I cannot wait to see just the four of them on the pyramid stage blasting out a greatest hits setlist (which is what they have hinted at) and blowing the crowd away and making the doubter and the criticisers eat their hats! They are going to be the best thing that Glastonbury has ever seen. Four men with huge passion for their music and that music coming from their souls is going to be so amazing. And beside the obligatory bucket I will be packing lots of tissues as I can see it being an emotional night! I'll need plenty of tissues and I hope I don't see any of you because I'm prone to uncontrollable excitment,,,,,hubby has only been with me a couple of times and he wanted to disown me. Subscriber Janette B Posted March 6, 2011 Author Subscriber Share Posted March 6, 2011 That will never happen - they will play whatever they play and it will be BRILLIANT, AMAZING, U2 at the top of their game and the haters will still hate, but it won't matter cause they aren't important!!! bflorendo
Even though they're the headliners, it always comes down to the organizers/sponsors, etc. Rock festivals hosted by radio stations do this a lot. The Grammy's are also another example....those speeches are always cut short...regardless of what the award, or artist/band is.

bflorendo
This is coming from a tabloid. Should we take what the tabloids say seriously? This is a standard practice. Even though U2 is the biggest rock band in the world, they still have to follow some rules. Other examples are playing in local union run venues (I think Madison Square Garden is still union run). For example, in those cases, the union audio engineer is the one to control the console, while the band's audio engineers sits besides them for cues and guidance. Also no one on the band's crew is allowed to push/load, unload any cases....the local union has to do it. The road crew simply directs them. As for festivals, same thing. It's the promoter/sponsor. With network/radio shows, it's all about timing. Working with ads, promo spots, etc. It's mainly the $$$ that's priority. Live Aid and Live 8 are also great examples of this.
