Been up on stage with the band at one of the shows this year?

Huh?

Certain fans who already received special attention during the tour get special attention again? How about giving the fans who have never been on stage a chance to fulfill a dream?

Even though I have friends who fit the criteria and were invited to Paris for this contest, I cheer for the fans who haven't yet had their minute on stage.

I lack the ability to appropriately articulate the insanity that has become the pulling a fan up on stage, something that use to be spontaneous, fun & enjoyable to watch which now has become something else & not sure the band even pick anymore do they?? so yes this about sums it up for me.

I think for this if they were concerned about the fans, how about drop it or hire an unknown actor

I can only speak for myself, but when it happened to me, it truly was spontaneous.  Bono did not see me at all. I thought "oh well, I tried"...and then suddenly Adam came along, noticed me and went to get Bono. Truly the last thing I imagined was that any other band members had a say in the process.  I owe him big time!   Believe it or not, I actually can understand why there are people who might be annoyed/tired of the whole fan on stage thing, but I think hiring an actor to do it would be even less about fans. I think not doing it at all would be better than hiring an actor.  At least this way, there is a guaranteed fan up there. Just my opinion, of course.

Same here, edgesdancingqueen. It was totally random for me. I don't know WHY Bono picked me, but I'm glad he did. It's amazing to be pulled up on the stage by your favorite band. What made it mean even more to me was what I had to go through to get there. I've been a fan since 15 yrs old (maybe 7yrs old, but that's another story). My mom always went with me to U2 shows. She took me to my first concert ever at 16 yrs old on the Vertigo tour in 2005. Unfortunately, she got really sick last year and I lost her this year, 2 days before her birthday. I am heartbroken. There is nothing or no one that can replace your mother, but in that moment in time, when I was on the stage, I felt like everything was alright. Like there can still be light and a future and things can still go right. Shoot, I'm not even a dancer. My mom wore that crown and her spirit must have passed it to me that night. People thought that I knew beforehand that I would be on stage and I said "No". Things just worked out in my favor that night. That's all.

I, too, think this is sort of odd for the band. This has never been done before, am I wrong? True, it's better than having an actor up there, but should't a Parisian have their chance? Meh, who knows the reasoning. We can only guess.

The voting seems kinda scary. It's not even up yet, though, so I don't know what's going on.

Toyoracer, I loved reading your story.  And I agree, ideally, a Parisian would have the chance, but I think they want to maintain a level of comfort in knowing that the person they pull up won't do anything crazy.

Shannon387, I can imagine that would be really disheartening having a bad experience with staff. One time Dennis Sheehan yelled at me (because I was staring too hard at Bono in the hotel lobby hahaha). He actually meant well in the end, because Bono came over to talk to us, but boy was I mortified. I wanted to be swallowed up by the floor. But that is a story from another time and place, so to speak.

And yes, this whole thing IS doing my head in. The waiting and the checking for news!

Oh my goodness, they have posted the poll! My heart is pounding out of my chest!!!!!!!  If you want to check out the video I submitted, I'm under July 6 (Jessica). I also have a short U2.com video. I am making such a funny face at first because I stepped on my skirt and was worried that 20K people were looking at my undies. :-D

I'm Mariel from LA 2! I am glad that they're letting us vote for up to 5 people -- I've been able to meet some of the other lucky folks on stage and it's a great group! I would be thrilled to see any of them make it to Paris even if I don't. Good luck to everyone else! :)

I've got to agree with you, this is unfair on those fans who have wanted to join the band on stage but have not had an opportunity. It should be a once in a lifetime moment yet there's people on social media revelling in the fact they've been on stage more than once already and now might just get to do it again!!!
