  1. Not much I can add beyond my review on the main page...but I will add this:

I believe a significantly underrated spot for this show is where I ended up both this week and for i&e - Just outside the Redzone as far toward the middle of the runway as possible.  It is a spot where you can see both stages, are far enough back to get a good view of the barricage, and of course have the members band right in front of you on the runway a number of times.  Plus, this time around, during Pride you get this...(see attached photo), or Edge if you pick the other side.  In any event, if you have another show to go this tour, this is a spot that I HIGHLY recommend!  ?

They don’t call it Hotlanta for nothing. Of my shows I was looking forward to the most on this tour, it was the Atlanta show. My “hometown” show. I’ve seen the band there every time they have played Atlanta since ZooTV. This was my 9th show there and like the others there, it left me with a feeling of complete happiness. I’ve seen the shows from the midsections of The Omni, to the very top of the Georgia Dome, to the GA of Phillips Arena, to the GA in the Georgia Dome, and now to the GA in Infinite Energy Arena, which was by far the smallest arena I have ever seen them in. The fact that it’s been 9 years since they last played Atlanta added to the excitement. The band was on fire and the audience was on fire too.
The arena erupted when the words “nothing to stop this from being the best day ever” rang through and Bono appeared in the screen. “The house shakes” could not have been truer words during “The Blackout”. This song has some serious kick live and I love it.
As many people know, until Saturday night in Nashville, I had never seen “Gloria” live and it was top of my bucket list. Now I’ve officially seen it twice and I am so happy to be hearing it. It sounds so incredible live. 30 years was worth the wait and I jumped and screamed like I was 30 years younger than I am.
One of my favorite parts of the show is the estage set. I love the remix of “Elevation” they are doing and “Vertigo” and “Desire” add that extra kick. Now, let’s talk about Macphisto and “Acrobat”. I watched Bono instead of the screen for this one and what he puts into this character is scary. To watch his facial expressions especially when he says “when you stop believing in me is when I do my best work” is a bit unnerving. Back on ZooTV, Macphisto was a playful devilish guy. The experience version of him is much more menacing.
Another highlight of the night was “Pride”. I must admit that I had gotten a bit tired of “Pride” over the past couple of tours; but the way they do it with Adam’s bass cranked up, I have a new found love for it. Hearing it where the song has so much relevance and the crowd singing along as loud as they could, it was quite amazing.
I’m growing more and more fond of “American Soul” because it comes alive in the show and I’m quite surprised how much I love it live. It’s such a rocking anthem song live. Another thing that took me by surprise was how “One” got to me and I ended up crying through the whole song and into “Love is Bigger”.
Atlanta was an emotional journey for me and I am so happy I’ve had the opportunity to see them as many times as I have there. It is truly my journey from innocence to experience with the band.

I always wonder about those in GA in sandals. I’d be so worried my toes would get smooshed haha! Then again a tripped major after Omahas show and went down hard so I am a klutz.

I was actually the sandals guy in that photo!  Atlanta gets HOT.  I don't worry too much.  Maybe I should!  Someone did drop something on my foot...fortunately it was a pen!  NBD . ?

  4.

Thank you for the kind words, especially because your photos are so great! Mine were just from my phone.

Here's hoping we meet in a GA line in Atlanta some time in 2016!

You know, I just realized just how "Bono-heavy" my photos are. I really am a fan of the whole band!

As far as review... I've been following this tour online from the start. Can't believe my show finally came!

Never thought they could top 360, but yep, they did!

Thrilled I got to see Lucifer's Hands live. I love that they're playing the deep cuts. It really is something special for the real fans.

As cool as this tour has been online... Nothing compares to seeing it live! Got awesome memories (and a green limited edition shirt) to show for it.

Flew up from Atlanta just for this show. Now I can only hope the band comes my way next year!

Enjoyed your photos.  And I was the same way, never thought they could top 360 for me, but they did.

I'm also hoping for Atlanta on the next US leg, as it is my "hometown" show since they haven't come to my hometown since 1992.

  5. You know, I think sometimes its all a matter of perspective.  On Thursday night I was in the GA on the South Side (Edge's Side) and I can attest that things were certainly not thin - and, with the exception of a couple of morons who almost got into a fight during Iris and had to be dragged away by security - it was an awesome vibe.  Or maybe I was too into the music myself to notice?

In any event, in a large arena that holds 20,000 plus your bound to find some spots of the crowd that are more into the show than others just by chance.  Or course, if you end up in a "downer" section I suppose it could drag down the feeling for the whole show.  I've seen the band a bunch and really left Thursday thinking everything was especially strong... from the crowd, to the set-list (loved getting Lucifer's Hands only the 3rd time it was played and seeing AIWIY live), to the band itself.

As for the "political" aspects of the show... I kind of feel like you might be missing the point... I don't believe they band is praising America in some kind of blind Country music kind of way... instead they're challenging us to try to live up to the philosophical ideals that America is theoretically SUPPOSED to stand for.  That's why they also call out Ferguson, Baltimore, and Charleston and declare that we need MLK now more than ever before.

Just some food for thought I guess.

Thought the energy through out on Sunday night much higher and the band much more engaged than Thursday.  Section 109 ... all standing Thursday.  Section 224 all standing around me on Sunday.  The GA crowd seemed thin and underwhelmed on Thursday night.  Sunday there were a lot more hands in the air near the stage.

I think it's an intriguing show as it has some pretty heavy political content throughout wedded to some really rock out moments.  It can be a bit hard to dance hard to Sunday Bloody Sunday and the memory of what was happening in Ireland ... and Ireland forms a huge middle section for this tour.

Also it is darn odd to be in NYC and hear a band praising "America" ... that was just not the vibe when U2 hit the streets in the early 80's and has not been for much of my life.  If you're of a liberal bent you can feel like you've apologized for your country much of your life.  The idea that every tax payer is an Aids activist is incredibly radical.  I'm pretty curious what others think about that subtext in the show.  American an idea, still being was it "shaped" or "born".

Very glad I went back for Sunday night.  Thursday felt like watching a band I used to love run a little low on gas.  Sunday, the tears were back in my eyes.  Loved Gloria.  And Lady Gaga killed Ordinary Love.  shades of Mary J.  The Edge had some amazing moments.  Adam was smiling.  Guy hugs.  I love to turn around and watch the audience singing.  Sure, they don't always know all the words.  Sometimes I don't know all the words.  Doesn't mean these are not 4 guys with a heck of a lot to contribute.  It is like going to church.

  7. How fast have they been going?

If I go straight to the merch counter as soon as they let the GA line in, am I in good shape?

There are limited edition t-shirts and posters for each night. They differ in color. The shirts are Blue MSG1 and yellow MSG2. I have an large yellow, I'm interested in trading for another night in XL. PM if you are interested.

The posters are white MSG1 and red MSG2.

BTW - Don't wait to buy them, they go fast, get them on your way in. On eBay they say they are limited to 300.

  8. How about location tips? I'm only 5'6"... Also thinking I'd both like a good view of both stages AND the screen. Kind of thinking that the outside of the Redzone rail as far to the center of the catwalk would make sense. Am I right about that? Will be meeting my friend about 5:30 on Thursday because she has to come from work... Sounds like we still shouldn't have much trouble getting the spot of our choice... Also, any insight as to whether we'll be in good shape to get the limited edition MSG "shirt of the night"? Thanks in advance for any input or advice... After following the tour since May, hard to believe my show is just two nights away!!!

  9. Here's an outside the box idea that could be fun for the North American dates: Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. Their rendition of Desire was fun to see and most late night talk shows are reruns in the summer anyway so they ought to be available. I'm thinking it would be great to see something just plain entertaining as opposed to just another band we'd just as soon finish up so we can get to the show!
