So, let's start in on the bad - the pre-show GA line controversy for the moment. The band wrote a song about it, you know the one with the line "just gimme what I want and no one gets hurt" (shouldn't say that as some will feel honored) - because that's what it comes down to, people proclaiming the given rules void and naming themselves proclaimers of new rules, in secret, and threatening violence or its approach if their rule isn't adhered to (before the bulk of the crowd shows up of course), and security and the venue both bow when it's clear the numbers are greater than they could prevent violence from. The reality is the venue & security should refuse to pay any attention to the false line, and the question remains open whether there's any recourse here for the bulk of the fans whose only notice is of the original venue announced rules: perhaps a suit for fraud against the perpetrators of the line? Tricky, but possible. Pre-emptive strike by the venue? distributing #s by purchased group of tickets a week prior to the show? Maybe. Just a few more comments in the many out there about this now, though it isn't the first go 'round for this controversy either, and without value in it for the venue or security, the argument turns but changes do not come. What fuels it mostly does seem to be the need for hierarchy among fans - the focus on numbers, objects, contacts, etc. as of central value. Not the art itself of course, not the songs themselves, just how I stand in the reflected light from the art, that belief in a position owed or again self-proclaimed - hate to say it, but the band is not your mirror, you look just the same Then again, some just want position so they can make money. And all this exists in the ever present lip-smacking thunder of the ass kissing going on toward the band, toward moderators, toward site owners in the vie for position, or at least to hide the behind the scenes pettiness. Ah, why do I persist, resist, etc. in this circus? Not because I'm a woman. I'm not. For this tour, yes, purely for nostalgia, to sing along to songs with a couple people whose rooms I used to hang out in 30 years ago and we'd talk about the album and the tour (the original one) while it was still ongoing.
But another Lumineers picture to distract you from any controversy...

I think now all you need to do is add a twitter / instagram link into a post KD and it should show up the original post.. can you give that a go to check it works for all?

Nice job - curated is so much better than twitter box ticking on songs & phrases, parroting bono, and attempts at notoriety (her vanity) mainly via crowdsourcing. Honestly bored with the bulk of twitter coverage. But that's just me.

I'm ready for what's next beyond the tour - let's get 'em through SOE and SOA and then, post-ascent, on to a "Life on Mars" album of music for the red planet's first colonists (whenever that happens) based on Bowie, Kim Stanley Robinson, Yuri Gargarin, Elon Musk, Neil Armstrong, and B & E's time with NASA A song suite to the future
-
From physiological psychology side of things there's an interesting bit of arousal state transference going on there, which is cheaper than conventional marketing. Anyway, I'll be back to comment on this further (though not that specific point).
-
a lot of people trying with code alreay used.
shame on them.
I have one valid subscribe code and I'm unable to get one.
Everyone I've seen post they got tickets supposedly had used their codes already.
-
Merci. I think I had the easy job on this one though - the people chasing down the books is what I'm thankful for.
-
And the piece on the Psalms confetti is now up - http://www.u2wanderer.org/news/2015/08/09/you-got-my-head-filled-with-psalms-you-got-my-shoelaces-undone/
Left out the "Pilgrim" Psalm so Miracle lovers may want to note its presence.
Anyway, all these articles have been building toward a wrap with the next one - Psalm 1925 (it's not a typo for an actual Psalm, that is the title of the next article), which hopefully we'll have done soon, and then update our source info etc.
Big thanks to all who've helped, and to Aaron for putting the stuff up & putting up with me.

And now this bit from Willie Williams in the livedesign interview:
"LD: Are there any special effects?
WW: None, except for haze, of course. Oh, and eight confetti machines that shower the audience with pages from Ulysses, Lord of the Flies, The Psalms, and Alice in Wonderland. Bono said to me one day, “When they fire-bombed the library in Sarajevo, pages from books rained down on the city for days. Words, poems, sentences, all mixed up, fell into people’s hands. Do you think we could recreate that?”"
Except, no one has posted pages from Ulyssess or Lord of the Flies. Both have been ripped and thrown at shows though.
I think maybe Willie was talking about original ideas they had for the books, and is mixing together the debris and actual books thrown.
I should have responded to this line before - I think that's true, or he's just generally broadening the ideas with one we aren't likely to touch on without a revelation in interviews. Generally being conclusory isn't your friend with things like this as they can draw from and meld multiple sources, so does the Sarajevo image blot out the Dublin image - maybe in the minds of some, but in general, probably not.
-
u2jerry - yes, the diehards, they are still around, but many have families and other obligations. Some touched base even if they couldn't be there, and some tried but failed to get workarounds in place to be there - I was lined up for 5 and made 2. The world has changed, but I saw many faces of diehards I know and those I don't, though certainly not as many as you'd see in a stadium gig. The new generation of diehards (post-2000) are fairly visible as well given their active web presence. That said, getting the break through on the singing along was tough, at moments I thought it was getting near acceptable levels, and I screamed my lungs out at my 2nd show at one point in an effort to get people to go louder. I'll get my disjointed bits of reviews up soon.

I love the variation a guest adds to a song. I'd love to see Gavin and Guggi come out to play on Cedarwood. Yes, Lykke Li on Troubles - the last time they played it was beautiful. How about Will Sergeant playing guitar on Raised by Wolves and Ian McCullough dueting as Judas on Until the End, to bury an old hatchet, hatchet in hand. Aloe Blacc maybe. Mick Jones. Paul Simonon. Hooky, if that doesn't upset the New Order politics. Wolf Alice. John Lydon on Electric Co. - woo, he could turn that song nasty and inside out. Roger Waters and/or Bob Geldoff dueting on Iris. I'd love to see Julian Lennon take on the piano for Every Breaking Wave or add some vocals. How about Nile Rodgers bringing some funk to Mysterious Ways. Jim Kerr. Sting. I'd love to see Van Morrison of Cyprus Avenue move from snippet to present and scatting during Bad or bringing the Sam Cooke to Still Haven't Found. Whoever's willing to take a chance - we've had some pretty great audience members playing along too.

I think maybe Willie was talking about original ideas they had for the books, and is mixing together the debris and actual books thrown. I definitely saw Lord of the Flies on the catwalk in front of me, and The Screwtape Letters (C. S. Lewis) was the other one nearby. Someone else told me Milton's Paradise Lost was one of them. As close as I was to the stack on the E-stage one night, I cold not get a clear picture, but did see Bono pick up a Poems collection--I'll see if I can figure out which one it was. There was one book that was pretty large, not thick but L & W dimension-wise it was very much like a textbook. He didn't throw all of them off the E-stage. The crew ended up putting a few of them underneath. I had one in my hands that security guy picked up from behind the rail, but another fan from behind grabbed it from above and out of my hand--couldn't even see the title it happened so quickly. I definitely got pages from Alice, Dante's Paradisio, & Psalms.
It's certainly an amazingly jarring effect, and I would have loved to be a part of the curating of this bit of the tour! As for reasons, I remember reading that quote above before too, but also didn't the car bombing in Raised by Wolves happen not too long after school got out? Bono said that he usually would have been in that area after school, but went elsewhere instead that day. A lot of those books are school books.
Which show? & Do you have pictures? We are giving credit at u2wanderer.org for anyone that helps in the "curating" in the main articles, though give us some time as updating and trying to put out new stuff takes a bit of it. And the forums here and there are open for discussion about these things wherever you want to take it.

Yes, there really isn't a break / time to leave. And the text changed for New York 1 - what is above is Boston 4 only so far.

Fly text is different since Boston they did You are all a part of the malaise (or whatever it was), etc.

Kept the energy up for sure. This is posted more formally on u2wanderer.org now.

u2wanderer.org - Aaron has been keeping track. I *think* they played all of Echo & the Bunnymen's Crocodiles album last night before the mix started, but really could only hear well enough to make out "Do It Clean."
