  1. Thanks Bigwave.  I mean it's insane as it sets up now.  5-10% of the house will have issues that will require remediation.  Why would a band want empty seats scattered around since someone got pregnant and now can't do GA etc.  Or a business trip comes up and now can't go that date now, illness.  I sold a pair for Detroit for Elevation the day of the show.  I was sick and could not drive from Chicago and so we sold them on Craigslist for under face to 2 fans.  My wife met them and they drove to Det.  That is shut down now.

I will try to stop posting about this lol.  I look forward to your post on what we can do going forward to move our assets (tickets) around to see the shows we can and want to see.

  2. Yeah I have posted at length in many forums about how this lock down is insane.  I have made like 20 trades/sales on u2.com with fans to set up a touring season.  If they don't want us to travel around, like a lot of us do anyway, then go to more cities.

I mean Chicago is on sale and I can't TRY to get tickets to use as trade for other cities, the Mrs. wants Boston.  I mean, like I have posted, we used to have a SALE thread and a TRADE thread.

This touring year, this is just bs with all the lockdowns.  At least in NY MSG we can have some freedom to do what we want with our tickets, ie go/trade/sell.

  3. I click on Transfer for my Ny GA's and it says it is unavailable.  So when does that work.  The button is there like you say and it's useless.  You failed to mention that.

Still on my knees looking for help.

Now, there used to be whole threads.  One was selling only and one thread topic was trades only.  I used to live there to make a touring season work.

    Now?

I would argue it's not efficient at all.  I scan my ticket and I go in, done it for 20 years.  Now I have to keep a CC, carry it to the show etc.  Then I need to remember to pull it out.  Then your wife gets pregnant and you can't do GA now.  Now what do you do?  So how is paper "more efficient".  It's a 1000% PITA.  How can it not be, you are restricting freedom on the ticket.  How is a restriction "more efficient".  And how can someone say no one can argue that, when that position is destroyable.  This paperless is crushing making travel plans and putting together a U2 trip.  Now we have to come to them as they sit in a few cities and we can't get after-market tickets or even trade with fans.

Please PLEASE tell me how that is "obviously its way more efficient to have paperless tickets than paper".

PLEASE I AM DOWN ON MY KNEES, tell me how to work with it since it is so efficient.

    Thanks in advance.

This is laughable...  What is the difference between scanning a CC or scanning a ticket? NONE.

Being someone who has spent many summers and winters touring with Phish I understand the argument about touring with the band and wanting to pick up tickets the night of the show.

You can still do this its just electronic now, TM offers the ability to sell your tickets back to the public, its up to U2 (Tour Management) if they want to allow this.  NFL has been doing it for years.

Back to the point of touring, for every one person who buys tickets off the street from a scalper and has a good experience there is someone who got ripped off by that same scalper either before or after.

Bottom line the system makes it difficult for scalpers, NOT for the fans and despite the gripes not having the souvenir from the show I am perfectly fine with it.

OK since you get this, if the time comes and you don't want to do GA how do I make a trade on u2.com?  I still haven't seen how this works to get out of a show you can't go to.  Is there just a lot of empty seats now scattered around since the show is paper?

If you purchased tickets already then log into your ticket master account, you will see two options, Sell and Transfer.  Takes the responsibility off of U2, off the fan, no hassle with PayPal and Stub hub, no shipping of tickets, clean transaction straight from the source, TM   B)

You may now get up off your knees, I think I answered all the questions you were begging to be answered. :D

Oh and forgot to mention if you have the app, your tickets will be on your phone too!  Once TM gets their act together and catch up to live nation and others you will be able to transfer tickets right from your phone to a buddy's phone with a push of a button.  49ers are doing that now.  Here too with big data analytics they will be able to capture who buys the tickets and where they end up to figure out who the scalpers are.

There is NO argument to the fact paperless tickets are more convenient and more efficient despite the novelty of not having the paper to put in a box and look at once a year :-)

  4. Great post.  Finally an idea relating to how the world works.  All these guys drooling no difference and more efficient, wow.

Anyway, I can see them wanting to skim more of the after-market.  I mean things will happen to X % of people each show. How that is going to be managed is what I am talking about.  I have made maybe as high as 12 trades/tranactions with users on this site since Vertigo.  I remember being nervous the first time, and then it was no worries.

I mean I can't even try for a Chicago show now since I used 2 codes we have.  So now, I would usually get more Chicago and then trade those for other cities to flush out a touring season.  We have seen them 54 times and I met my wife on WIRE, the U2 fan mailing list, back in 1997.

So I know how it has worked in the past, and this SUCKS big time.  I mean we will see way less shows now.  And maybe that is the point.  Make the travelers not able to makes moves to acquire tix and see more shows.

I mean I don't know how to manage this.  I want to take 2 of our boys now to a show. I used a code, 2 tix, on Chicago 1.  Now let's say I get 4, which is what I want, to the Chicago 1.  What do I do with the other 2 I have?  I woudl love to flip those for say NY or Boston, my wife wants Boston.  My hands are tied.

I can't say how pissed I am at this lock-down of tickets.  It's insane.  All this crap of lockdown to supposedly get more fans in.  I am a fan trying to get in.

Don't you think that once tickets go on sale for the general public that Ticketmaster will open up their ticket re-selling function on their website? Ticketmaster and U2 are trying to cut down on scalpers which I appreciate.  But I can't imagine that there won't be a way to re-sell tickets through Ticketmaster since life can get in the way of concerts sometimes. I've re-sold tickets on Ticketmaster's website when I've been unable to go to an event and it's really easy.  It's basically like Stubhub where sellers set their own prices and Ticketmaster adds a fee on top.  All transactions are done via Ticketmaster so I don't need to deliver my tickets to the buyer.  However, I think this is just Ticketmaster's way of getting more control over making a profit on the re-selling of tickets, making it harder to re-sell on Stubhub or on the street.

It's a real bummer that fans can't trade these paperless tickets fan-to-fan though.  I was able to sell an extra ticket at face value to a fan once and it felt good keeping it all in the family.  I'd love to have a way to buy or sell a ticket to another fan club member.

I'm crossing my fingers that this will work out, and that the locals as well as those of us who plan to travel will get the tickets that we are looking for.  Makes for a nervous waiting game.

  5. This is laughable...  What is the difference between scanning a CC or scanning a ticket? NONE.

Really?  Are you kidding?  So you can't go to the show now, how do you sell?  You change credit card?  You loose your job and you need the money.  Say 5% of the house has issues, that's over 1000 people who would say u r crazy NUTS to say there is no difference.

Please tell me the difference Zoom.  Please.

  6. Looks like it's just the GA that are paperless; reserved seats aren't (despite what it initially seemed on many of the venue websites).  That said, it's a big problem that the GA are paperless for the reasons many have given.  Hopefully, the band will at least make it possible to trade them--that would solve a huge amount of problems.

    YES LET US FANS TRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean we have to travel now to go to them and it will be impossible to acquire multiple shows in a row in NY as they go on sale at once.  I know NY is all paper, so the easiest, but it's going to be tough everywhere else.  Why are they making it hard on us?

  8. Yeah you think out of 20K people at a U2 show in Chicago like DUH some can't make it.  I mean it's insane.

Sorry business trip came up, can't go. Sorry eat them.  WOW.  Is it fine if you can go sure you get in.

Does it not work if you can't go, no it's brutal.  Beyond brutal, it's unfair and not right.  Can you sell back to TM, no.  can you sell to a friend, no.  Can you trade with a U2 fan, no.  I mean this is almost making me NOT want to see them this tour.  I mean I have not missed a Chicago show in 20 years.  So now on the on-sale say I don't get tickets.  I know a big stretch.  NOT.  So what do I do now.  Before it was easy.  Any ideas now?

  9. OP sorry for the trouble.  at least for your venue it's paper tickets and you can trade or buy from a fan.

Now, imagine you are in a city with all paperless.  HOW are you going to go to the show?

THIS PAPERLESS SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.  Big time.  I think NY is the freest venue due to a law in NY State that says a venue must offer a paper ticket.  Chi we have GA for a night.  What about if the wife says can't camp out like when we were young.  In the past I could trade them on U2.com adn I would get seats and someone would get GA for Chicago.  Now, how does it work?

Sorry for your troubles.  Wait till the troubles getting tickets in the after-market.

All U2 has done this tour is make it THE hardest tour to get tickets to at MOST venues.

  11. Tried Boston GA Saturday and there was one, I was right in having the page set up to just enter the code and then right in, and I tried it every second.  So there was no Sat GA for Boston going into today.  I was trying to decide which show to try for and I tried for the wrong one.  Might not make it back to Boston now.

    Thanks for that update.

  12. Hopefully, it will be similar to Metallica and not to the seating chart above. With the seating chart above, U2 will either play at one end and probably never in the center. We will first have to wait, go through winter, cold, snow and more snow and then we will know more about the stage, setlist and more.

yeah and with that setup, RedZone 350 each is in the front, so are the RZ the BEST GA now versus on the side before?

  13. Wow it seems like such a hassle.  I can't buy from a U2 fan who can't go because of this?  I made many trades on U2.com the last 2 tours, 360 and Vertigo.  Is that over?  I mean as plans change etc.  Travel for fans will be HUGE this tour, we have to go to them.  We travel, plans change, X itinerary will work over Y etc.  You put it together.  How are we supposed to live as a fan with this crap?  i don't see any answers.  I can't believe this.  Has anyone ever heard of a whole arena show on lockdown?  Who else does this?

  14. Gruffgordon, do you have a A code and are seeing what is there?  How do you know, that is the only way I can think of that you could know.

Thanks for any update.  Can you check Chicago as well?  Thanks!

  15. NIce post, looking at thread.  I can't imagine Monday.  This was a JOKE.  A TOTAL JOKE.  I had all you had, lost tickets etc, code bad, screen timed out.  I mean these guys can't sell tickets.  Period.

Glad you made it, but it's brutal.  How can Monday even WORK at all, I can't imagine it.

The TM.com process was far from relaxing. I'm convinced they slow down their servers on purpose.  I don't know the math, but I figure a company that makes that much money tries to make more of scalping (I mean TicketsNow.com....Please).   There's no way that a company that big shouldn't be able to handle almost any concert release - Much less a pre-sale for only a select few.

I had 2 GA tickets for MSG 7/18 on hold and when it got to the payment page...It never fully loaded.  I was just sitting there so I had to try a refresh and of course that released my tickets.  When I went back it said that my code was used of course.  I called U2.com and automated message told me to call back later.

I don't know what happened, but I tried the code again and it worked.  Got two tix in section 115 and didn't hesitate. The payment process took much longer than it ever does, but finally went through.

I'm working on becoming more relaxed in therapy and this little episode set me back a few sessions.

I hope you all got tickets today because Monday is going to be an absolute s*%tshow....
