  1. Not sure about before the shows but Shawn Brady, who is the lead singer of Elevation, terrific U2 tribute band, is playing accoustic shows at Hurley's Irish Pub after each show. Sure to be playing lots of U2 favorites!

That's great, but wonder why ELEVATION does not have that noted on their own website. Cheers.

  2. No you are not pain.

Socializing is like looking for work.

You just have to put yourself out there, on the line a little, and see what develops out of that.

I had crap jobs when I was younger which turned into over time a self employed opportunity and similarly many flat social get togethers which eventually got better.

I don't think there is a formula, which highly active brains like yours likely want or believe it needs. I think it is just in taking minor, small, borderline comfortable risks here and there.

What the f--k, at the end of the day.

  3. Cheers out to Janet,

A short lived high school sweety who saw through much of my obnoxiousness and intellectual stench (yuck in even writing that ) to bring me a copy of WAR. My intro to that Irish band from Dublin.

I was 17 and she was so cool in ways almost everyone else would think uncool. She is to blame for my becoming somewhat of a defacto U2 roady ! AND I would have married her then, 34 years ago.

But glad I did not - or rather more honestly, that she broke it off with me at the end of high school as it turns out - despite my wife only being moderately warm to them !!! Cheers.

  4. This might sound a little rude, but the one aspect of PHX night 2 which was a tad noticeable on the low decibel/jezebel metre were the spouses who came to the show with their better halves being die hard U2 fans. I have to admit to seeing several if not many who were sidekicks and quite like stagnant water if you will, while their 'even better' halves sung their lungs out.

My wife understands this comment so no offence is taken on my home front, but I don't go to my favourite band in the world shows with anyone but people who love the band and get into as much as I will. She is the same. I am pretty flat at times, in the past, for bands she knows well and I am iffy about.

GA's for fans only !!! LOL

  5. It def is not a Montreal crowd in which literally everyone top to GA'S are singing on the bus, subway, in line, pubs and then during the show AND then after the show walking, taking the bus, subway and unlocking their front doors !!! LOL...but true,..

BUT, the people I was with and met in line and hung out with on the floor were into it and thrived. Very cool atmosphere for us.

  6. I was lucky to hook up with some true and historic fans, like yourselves here in PHX. The GA 's were smooth and comfortable without waiting long at all. You guys know the set list and likely have already watched some slides and film from it, but to provide my overall sense of the how and environment, I will try to write it in terms of what IT MEANT TO ME.

A lot of years have passed since the last show in MONC TOWN ( Moncton) and likely like all of you, I felt like an addict that needed a fix so even in entering the arena I could feel a sense of relief. True, palatable relief. It was like in some sense, I could breath again and suck in some fresh air that contained a vibe, a gas...something, which would provide me a form of spiritual medicine to sustain me to he next chance.

And that is not so far off for me in that I will see the again shortly in Montreal and Toronto. But some 4 plus years between Moncton and seeing them here in Phoenix felt less about the show, the band and the music ( at first ) and more about just a form of persona release and relief, as odd as that undoubtedly sounds.

But then the music and the presentation started and the signing began, crowd and band and the smiles....the smiles on everyone within this area. People with good voices and people like me 'who know that they (I) can't dance, at least they know ' did our equivalent in singing and shouted out with each tune. We, I knew I suck at singing...at least I know ! But it did not stop me because, well, because we all get it.

A very cool celebration. One of the aspects of this band and how they effect so many of us in such meaningful ways cam through on the floor and in chatting with other fans. Many of us found ourselves talking about how they, the band, brought us out of difficult moments, how U2's music carried as through heavy and unfairly weighted genetic or chemical challenges and, mental or physical or both and how being in this atmosphere seemed like a tonic of some sort with just soothed out and smoothed out these issues a bit.

So, again I appreciate this little diatribe is not s much about the show and music...yet...it is what I wanted to reflect upon with you all. U2 fans more than most wear their emotions on their sleeves, are open books and seem to chat more freely about very personal things and brilliantly...truly BRILLIANTLY,more times than not find refuge in our fellow fans experiences.

That is for me what I needed the most and at first. And then came more music, the show and the energy...which I will write about when I get home and then include some pics, one of which will be an eye spy !  Cheers.
