  1. New York will always be New York. For good and Bad. For those OUTRAGED by the scalpers working in plain sight with MSG staff, don't forget that a few blocks south is Wall-Street. A place where the same scalpers (bankers) work with MSG staff (Government) to bend the rules towards those 'in the know' and who can afford it.
  2. Oh wow. That is not good. Not even in Latin America do you see that kind of stuff.
  3. My experiences in MSG were surprisingly really good. The staff (I thought) was very professional, quick, agile and top notch. Much better than those in my hometown Miami. Even the security before opening the doors would talk basketball with us, their preferences of shows to work..etc. No complains here.
  4. According to the article: "U2 has not decided exactly how it will monetize the video it captures from its concerts." "U2 decided it might be a good idea to capture every concert in a digital format." http://thevarguy.com/computer-technology-hardware-solutions-and-news/073115/u2-finds-what-its-looking-emc-storage ________________________________________________________________ U2 Finds What It's Looking For in EMC Storage Channel partners are always on the lookout for a new use case for applying technology that not only makes money, but actually might be fun to implement. With that in mind, solution providers should pay a little extra attention to what EMC (EMC) is up to with the rock band U2. During its iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE concert tour, U2 decided it might be a good idea to capture every concert in a digital format. To that end, U2 engaged EMC to deploy an all-Flash array version of VNXe 3200 storage system and its Data Domain backup systems. Normally found in a 2u rack inside a data center, these 3.5-inch tall storage systems are, at least as far as U2 is concerned, portable. Each night before the concert starts, Live Nation, the company U2 contracted to film its concerts, takes over a suite at the venue to set up systems that capture streaming video using eight high-definition cameras. Each concert can generate as much as 2TB of data, depending on the actual length of the concert and whether there are guest performers joining the band on stage. Connected to both PCs running Windows 7 and Mac OS operating systems, the version of the VNXe storage array being used by Live Nation is configured with 22.9TB of solid-state disk (SSD) storage. The Data Domain systems then provide and addition 6PB of backup storage. Perhaps most important from Live Nation's perspective, it doesn’t take a dedicated IT staff to set up these systems before every show. The same roadies used to set up the stage and the HD cameras also plug in the EMC storage. Chris Ratcliffe, senior vice president of Marketing and Product Management for emerging technologies at EMC, said what’s really interesting about all this from a solution provider perspective is that not only is this solution replicable to other live venues, it also can be applied to just about any event, including everything from the local high school football game to, say, graduation ceremonies. Rather than rely on a USB stick to capture video, Ratcliffe said HD video cameras and Flash storage technologies have advanced to the point where arrays can be taken directly to the place where the video needs to be captured to preserve the highest quality video experience possible. Ratcliffe said U2 has not decided exactly how it will monetize the video it captures from its concerts. But HD video is such a major part of the monetization strategy for just about anybody participating in an event worth preserving for posterity. For solution providers, that means that any firm or company looking to capture video professionally represents a new use case for connecting storage arrays to servers as well as something as simple as a basic PC system. Of course, not every one of those events may be as cool as a U2 concert. But then again, there are a lot more of them than there are rock concerts.
  5. Well put Peggy, thank you! They like U2, and are very appreciative of the impact they have had in my life, and by extension my family's live for a decade. But after reading your post, seats may be wiser.
  6. True Bigwave. Gotta say though, I have spoken to several crew members this leg and feel quite confident of our chances
  7. Thank you Cathy. You have convinced me. I agree that they may have a great time for 45 minutes, and then get tired the rest of the show. Looks like $300 seats it is (they deserve it and more).
  8. Hello All, I'm already scheming , budgeting and planning for next year's North American leg, and need some opinion for those of you who have done Red Zone. For my local Miami shows, I'd like to bring my parents to their second U2 show. This time, I'm debating whether to get them the expensive seat or Red Zone. I'd love for them experience the GA energy, but I'm afraid if its a bit too much for them since they are in their mid 60's. What do you guys think? My parents are healthy. Bad idea? Good idea? Thank you for your feedback. Jaime
  9. Its simply a way to avoid chaos. As you may imagine, there is no perfect system. When you are dealing with 300 fans in the hot Manhattan sun, the rules have to be clear and concise. If there would be a rule for everyone to leave at whatever time they wanted ( 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm..etc) there would be a mess. Surely you understand. To use your example, if you are #40, you will have met A LOT of people, and created plenty of goodwill. Which is to say you can leave, and come back with no problems. PS: There are check in times for those that want to line up the day before. (9:30 pm and 6:30 am day of)
  10. 'Technically' after 6:30 am everyone has to stay in line for the day. HOWEVER, it is common and accepted that everyone makes friends with their line neighbors, and take 2-3 hours breaks for lunch, naps..etc. As long as it is not abused and your line neighbors are aware.
  11. Numbers are stopped distributed around 2:00 pm day of the show. For the shows so far, there are 200 people average in line at this point. If you want a number anywhere from #40-#100, you should arrive from 6:30 am to 10:00 am. Let me know if you need any more info.
  12. Also, there is the fact there are 8 shows. Subconsciously, this plays a part by 'watering down' the excitement a bit. Especially for the middle shows.

  14. Hello Danknapp, Let me answer the t-shirt/poster question first. MSG opens the merchandise stand in their main 7th avenue entrance at 4:00 pm. If you want a limuted poster/t-shirt I recommend you arrive to MSG before you line up, and go into the 7th avenue entrance merch stand. (You can go inside without a ticket). That way you can do the GA experience without having to worry about that, because GA goers do always get limited merchandise or none at all. As far as the view, I'm 5'6 myself. I went with my two 5'7 cousins and my 5'5 brother in law. We were all tiny. For night 2, we decided where you said. Redzone rail (Adam's side had more space). It was an AWESOME decision. We not only got a bit of both stages, but we got the screen effects (which I completely missed night 1 and are a big part of the show) and the band plays a solid 4 songs in the middle anyway. Good luck.
  15. Saturday's show I was #2. Arrived at 11:00 am the day before. Got front row main stage. Sunday's show, I arrived 6:00 pm day of the show. Could have got third row main stage If wanted to. Conclusion: Lining up is not necessary.
  16. I'm sure if you get into the line early on showday, fellow fans will have a general idea.

  18. Have two great fan seats for night one (7/18). Wondering if anyone with two GA's for the same night is open for a trade. Please use PM feature, no e-mails, thx, mods
  19. This happened to me at the Bruce Springsteen show in South Florida this year. Take the old card. It will work.
