  1. 45438 - Just over an hour ago, my entire neighbourhood clapped for the NHS and everyone working right now to battle COVID-19. Love truly is bigger than anything in its way.
  2. Was supposed to play a gig in Worthing next month, and also to see Black Peaks and Elbow in Brighton too. Both the latter now postponed and while I haven't had any confirmation regarding the former it's safe to assume it isn't going ahead. So what concert am I going to next? I don't know!
  3. 45424 - Just saw that Glastonbury's been cancelled, less than a week after they announced the lineup. Bad times.
  4. Two Brighton venues I was at two weeks ago (the Dome, where I saw Frank Turner, and The Pipeline, where I played) are temporarily shut until this ends. The big issue is the government haven't issued a shutdown order, only a recommendation, which makes it much harder for these venues to claim insurance. 🙃
  5. 45421 - Our idiot PM has been his idiot self again today, making an announcement that recommends that theatres shut but not explicitly issuing a shutdown order. This is bad because it means that these venues won't be able to claim insurance for the time of closure because they were advised rather than ordered. The Dome, which is one of Brighton's biggest venues, has just announced it's temporarily closed. My work have issued some new cleaning protocols but they haven't given us any clarity on the bigger questions - IE should we be expecting a shutdown order? If we get shut down are we going to get compensated with sickpay? This gets more and more stressful with each passing day.
  6. 45416 - I counted two coughing children and two coughing adults at work today. Crazy how far people's hygiene has fallen! And the government's response has been useless, especially compared to other countries. Maybe this will be what finally ends the Tories at the next election.
  7. 45413 - Seeing a lot of people being like "it's nothing, people need to stop panicking about it!" Panicking will do nothing to make the situation better, yes. But sticking fingers in ears, going "LA LA LA" and pretending it isn't happening definitely will make it worse. Wash your hands, with soap & hot water, stay hygienic, follow the advice, don't stock up on things other people need too, and don't cough or sneeze without covering your mouth!
  8. From earlier this week, Frank Turner playing a solo show at the Brighton Dome, 4 March. Been a while since I last saw Frank, having seen a mix of full band and solo acoustic shows. It's always nice when a major artist plays 10 minutes on foot from where you live. He went with a chronological set, with two songs from each album, which was really cool because it felt like you went on a real journey. A real showman as well, who always gives it everything.
  9. Editors at Wembley Arena, 28 February, playing a greatest hits setlist. I'd seen them 7 times before but this one was far and out one of the best gigs I've ever been to. They played so many songs I thought I'd never get to hear live, and did it so well. The opening four songs in particular were clearly targeted straight at the part of the brain that handles nostalgia, and they played a great mix of old & new songs. Man, I love this band so much.
  10. Haven't checked in on here much but been to a few amazing gigs in the last few weeks. Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes at Alexandra Palace London, 15 February. Awesome with an insane selection of material from across their three albums. Frank was born in a town quite close to my birthplace as it happens!
  11. I'm gonna go one further than the people mentioning Blu Ray and say...haven't the band heard of Netflix?
  12. Honestly? Seems a bit half-hearted to me. If the full show does gets a general public release someone will probably rip the whole thing and upload it to YouTube (already happened with the abbreviated broadcast tracks) so a bit impractical too.
  13. RIP Terry Jones. Life of Brian is still a cinematic and comedic gift.
  14. 45318 - Introduced the parents to Cards Against Humanity. Dad won 3 times. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
  15. 45315 - Hope everyone's been having a good Christmas & Boxing Day!
  16. In the wake of the political mess unfolding here in the UK, Get Out of Your Own Way is becoming a song of personal strength for me.
  17. 45305 - I'm doing the triple bill tonight as well. 9 hours in a cinema, gonna be good!
  18. 45286 - I now feel more of an exhausted, frustrated but unsurprised anger. Like...again? 9 years of Tory damage on display for everyone to see, headed up by a prime minister who hides in a fridge to avoid questions, and...we voted for this again?
  19. You know what's weird about this last show? It's not just the last show of the tour, it's U2's last one of the entire decade. What a decade it's been.
  20. 45279 - I seriously hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the exit poll is forecasting the biggest Tory majority since Thatcher. I am shaking.
  21. Good morning from the UK! Hoping to actually tune into the show this time round, haven't followed this tour that closely. EDIT: Oh. Just seen that it was only the one show.
  22. The National were stunning last night. A beautiful show with lots of unexpected highlights. Matt Berninger came down into the crowd a few times and at one point was within touching distance of me; alas, I was thwarted by the sheer volume of people in the way. The other major thing from the night was when they played their track About Today. It's a breakup song but I guess you could also interpret it as being about losing someone in general (https://genius.com/The-national-about-today-lyrics). A friend of mine passed away a couple of months ago, and when they played About Today it made me think of him. I didn't even cry that hard during With Or Without You at my first U2 show. That was powerful stuff. I also had a couple of friends who were working as part of the stage crew that night. They said it was generally smooth but apparently one time when Matt went in the crowd the stage manager followed to keep him safe, and a fan punched him & gave him two broken ribs. Behave yourselves, people! The security detail are only there for your safety and the safety of the band! Apart from that, great night.
  23. Haven't been here for a while! Had fun watching Jamie Lenman at Patterns in Brighton on my birthday a few weeks ago. I also just bagged a last minute ticket for The National at the Brighton Centre tomorrow night - roughly 5 years after I last saw them at The O2 in London. Frank Turner's coming to the Brighton Dome as part of his solo tour in March, and by then it'll have been a good four years since I last saw him. Feel like I ought to pop along.
